Championship v Cobh in Lisgoold on Tuesday 29th of May 2008
Carrigtwohill 1-17 Cobh 1-14
Tuesday the 29th of May saw the meeting of Carrigtohill and Lisgoold in the second round of the Junior A football championship. Carrig got of to a great start scoring the first three points before Cobh got into there rhythm to get a score on the board. Both sides then traded points before Cobh scored a goal to level things up and then got the curial point just before the break to give them the lead.
Rocked by the Cobh comeback Carrig came out and scored 3 unanswered frees thanks to the boot of Cathal McSweeney to take a two point lead but as in the first half Cobh took a few minutes to get going and when they did scored 3 unanswered points of there own. Seamus O Farrell scored the next 2 points for Carrig to counter act the 2 from Cobh and it was a late saving point from Brian Lordan that saw Carrig get the well deserved draw to force the tie to extra time.
With the 2 teams feeling the effects of a highly exciting normal time the first half of extra time was a tiered affair with each side scoring 1 point again leaving it a draw game.
Second half of extra time and enter Niall McCarthy. Having been rested as a result of his weekend outing with Cork it only took him a few minutes to exert his authority on the pitch with a killer goal and then set Mickey Da up for a point. Cobh did score a late conciliation point but it was the man who opened the scoring Jason Barrett was to close proceedings with a last minute point.
