Erins Own 3-5 Carrigtwohill 2-8
Both teams brushed down the cobwebs and played out a thrilling draw on a sun drenched afternoon in Caherlag. Erins Owen were first off the mark scoring 1-3 without reply all from frees and a penalty, on a day that most decisions were going their way and they could do no wrong. But not to be deterred Carrig courageously fought back with Seamus Roche and Shane Healy winning the battle at midfield and centre forward Killian McCarthy playing deep in the defence helping out. Carrig were rewarded with points from Eoghain O’Mahoney (3) and one from Christopher Keegan and Aidan Meade laying off to Pat Sullivan for another. With the Carrig defence of Cathal McCarthy, Tim O’Connor, Frank Kierans, Sean Buckly, Pat Sullivan, Marty McConville, Adam McNamara now galvanised Erins Own were kept scoreless for the rest of this half, leaving just one point between the teams at the interval.
On resumption Erins Own were quick to settle and hit the back of the net to extend their lead. Carrig again fought back with a lovely point from Luke Kelly set up by Paul O’Hanlon.Eoghain put another over to narrow the gap again. Erins Own hit back with a point of their own to leave it 2-4 to 0-7 but Jamie Donovan and Cian O’Shea combined to set up Paul O’Hanlon who was taken down in the square and Eoghain made no mistake of the penalty to level the game. Then came the crucial goal that Carrig needed, Pat now at centre forward layed a lovely ball into Cathal who shot low but rebounded off the keeper and Pat was there again to finish it home. Carrig were now two points up with 5 minutes to go but then Marty was sidelined for a foul he didn’t commit a case of wrong full identity and with a man over Erins Owen broke through to score a goal despite a great effort by Kieran Baverstock who had a magnificent game. But in the dying seconds of the game Christopher Keegan fielded the ball on the edge of the square and was taken down and the reliable Eoghain O’Mahoney slotted it over to secure a draw.
