League v Cobh in Carrigtwohill on Friday 13th March 2015
Carrigtwohill 2-6 Cobh 0-11
Marty McConville and Eoghan O’Mahony’s goals keep Carrig’s undefeated record intact in the Junior A football league and give Carrig back to back wins. This was a very impressive display by Carrig against a formidable Cobh selection. Carrig soaked up a lot of pressure in the first few minutes of the game with goalkeeper Kieran Baverstock being tested on several occasions but well up to the challenge as per usual. Damian Donovan, Mike Sullivan and Ted Sullivan in the full backline were impregnable, and Carrig began to find their form with Brian Cashman,Shane Walsh and Denis O’Connor winning the battle in the half backline.A long ball in from the impressive Sean Dempsey, found Marty whose fighting spirit proved too powerful for the Cobh goalkeeper and Carrig notched up their first goal. Cobh went through a purple patch scoring the next three points without reply. But with Liam Sullivan and captain Killian McCarthy working tirelessly Carrig fought back and Aidan Meade won a free which Eoghain converted. Both teams then exchanged points before Shane Healy made a great solo run towards goals and was fouled which gave Eoghan the chance to put Carrig ahead at half time; 1-3 to 0-5.
Cobh started the second half strongly scoring the first two points before Sean Rohain stopped the rot, with a magnificent long range point from the far right corner. With the introduction of fresh legs in Dylan Schriven, Frank Kierans, Austin Creagh, Darren Burns and Christopher Keegan, Carrig rallied against a determined Cobh side and Eoghain put two more points over the bar. But Cobh scored the next three points giving them a two point lead going into the last five minutes of the game. But a never say die spirit of Carrig paid dividends and great work in the forward line led to Eoghan latching onto the ball with only one intention on his mind and finding the back of the net with a scorching shot at the death of the game.
