Senior Hurling Challenge v Ballyduff Upper in Carrigtwohill on Friday 19th February 2016
Carrigtwohill 4-18 Ballyduff Upper 3-17
Carrigtwohill’s senior hurlers started their season with a good work-out against Ballyduff Upper last Friday night. Missing a number of players through injury and work commitments Carrig fielded a fairly experimental side and trailed by three goals after about ten minutes. However they fought their way back into the match with some lovely points from the impressive Tomas Hogan and two goals from the excellent Sean Rohan, who finished the match with 3-1 to his name.
Having played against the breeze Carrig only trailed by a point at half time, 2-11 to 3-9, and took control of the game in the third quarter with one fortuitous goal and a succession of points. Jay Horgan did well on his introduction at wing-back, Niall McCarthy was terrific when he was moved to the half forward line and Ciaran Gosnell played a pile of ball at centre field. There is plenty to work on but it was an encouraging start ahead of the first big test of the season on Sunday with the visit of county champions Glen Rovers in the Red FM League.
