League v Na Piarsaigh in Carrigtwohill on Monday 28th March 2016
Carrigtwohill 0-13 Na Piarsaigh 1-15
Carrig’s senior hurlers suffered another disappointing defeat in the RedFM Senior League at Carrig on Easter Monday, falling away in the final quarter after a reasonably solid performance up to that point. The sides were level at half-time, 0-6 each, but Na Piarsaigh took the initiative with a goal early in the second half and though Carrig reduced the deficit to a point on a couple of occasions they were unable to get back on level terms.
Carrig started well and led by 0-6 to 0-4 coming up to half time. Darren O’Driscoll looked dangerous in the corner while Brian Cashman was outstanding in defence. Ronan Power made a strong start to the game too and Carrig were having slightly the better of the argument.
Carrig led briefly after the break, 0-7 to 0-6, but Na Piarsaigh’s goal changed the momentum of the match. Carrig’s defence continued to fight manfully with Colm O’Connell outstanding once again at wing back but Carrig found scores hard to come by. Niall McCarthy was brilliant at wing forward and finished the game with four points from play. Young substitutes Daire Crotty and Ciaran Gosnell also scored but Carrig never looked like getting the goal they desperately needed.
