Senior Hurling League v Ballyhea in Carrigtwohill on Sunday 24th April 2016
Carrigtwohill 0-20 Ballyhea 2-12
Carrig’s senior hurlers recorded their first win of the League with a terrifically spirited performance against Ballyhea on Sunday. Two late points from Tomas Hogan, including a magnificent free from a tight angle against the sideline, sealed victory at the end of a match that swung one way and then the other.
There were never more than three points between the teams but Carrig wasted a lot of chances in the first half with the slight aid of a cross-breeze and they trailed by a point at the break, 1-6 to 0-8. Carrig, though, raised their effort in the second half with Niall McCarthy storming into the game at centre forward; he finished with four points. Seamus Roche was outstanding too at wing forward, scoring two points but also making a world of tackles.
Darren O’Driscoll was a constant threat at full forward while Tomas Hogan registered ten points for the second week in a row, an outstanding contribution. A number of the Carrig lads were playing their second match of the weekend and the commitment they showed was exemplary, none more so than Jay Horgan and Paraic Hogan..
Making his first start in a League match Conor McCarthy scored a vital point when the game was in the melting pot and the team in general showed great guts to dig out a victory that hung in the balance for the closing ten minutes.
