Senior Hurling League v Midleton in Midleton on Saturday 7th May 2016
Carrigtwohill 3-6 Midleton 0-16
Carrig’s senior hurlers came up just short in a hectic finish against their old rivals Midleton in the RedFM senior league last Saturday. On a wet murky night there was barely enough daylight to finish the game and the outcome was in the balance right until the final whistle.
The sides were level at half time after a low-scoring first half during which Midleton had a player sent off. Jamie McCarthy gave Carrig the lead mid-way through the first half with a very well taken goal after good approach work from Liam O’Sullivan but scores were hard to come by with defences on top. Niall McCarthy and Michael Fitzgerald got the pick of Carrig’s points.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Midleton building a score largely with frees and Carrig fighting back with goals. Jamie got his second goal at the end of the third quarter to give Carrig a 2-3 to 0-7 lead but Carrig were behind again and struggling when substitute Robbie White got Carrig’s third goal with about five minutes left. The sides were level one last time before Midleton won the game with a late surge.
