Senior Hurling League v Killeagh in Carrigtwohill on Thursday 9th June 2016
Carrigtwohill 0-21 Killeagh 1-15
Carrigtwohill’s senior hurlers picked up the winning thread with a brilliant second half performance against Killeagh in the RedFM League on Thursday night. Trailing by seven points shortly before half time and by six at the break Carrig produced a high intensity performance during a second half in which they scored 13 points.
Carrig started well enough but Killeagh responded with an early goal followed by three unanswered points and Carrig spent most of the first half struggling with the energy and pace of a youthful Killeagh side. Robbie White and Daniel O’Mahony, though, were excellent in the Carrig attack and their points kept Carrig in the hunt while at the other end the absolutely brilliant Padraic Hogan held the defence together from full back.
Carrig’s attitude and level of aggression were much better all over the field in the second half and they quickly cut into Killeagh’s lead after the break. Carrig eventually nosed in front by a point with about ten minutes left but Killeagh came back with two points of their own and Carrig did well to respond again and kick clear in the closing minutes.
Tomas Hogan and substitute Sean Rohan came up with a couple of important scores and Niall McCarthy stormed into the game. Liam O’Sullivan also contributed a point from centre field in a very good performance. By the end Carrig had scored 18 points from play.
