20th – 22nd January 2017
The Juvenile Club hosted the Fé 13/Fé 14 team and mentors from St. Kevin’s GAA Club in Dublin for a weekend of hurling. Carrigtwohill native and former Carrig player, JJ O’Mahony is involved as a coach with St. Kevin’s.
The visiting team and mentors arrived on Friday evening and were put through their paces in a well organised training session on the all-weather pitch by Carrigtwohill 2015/2016 senior hurling manager, Niall Kidney. They received refreshments after the training session.
On Saturday, the Dublin team travelled to Cork city to play Glen Rovers in a challenge match and visited Fota Wildlife Park, followed by a training session in the hurling alley with double All-Ireland senior hurling championship winner, Niall McCarthy. Niall presented the players with medals from their Dublin league win in 2016. He also brought along his All-Ireland medals for the boys to see.
The weekend finished with a challenge match between the Carrig Fé 13/Fé 14 hurlers and St. Kevin’s, followed by refreshments in the club rooms.
The Juvenile Club would like to thank both Niall Kidney and Niall McCarthy for being so generous with their time. We would also like to give a special word of thanks to all of the families who provided accommodation for the travelling team and mentors. Finally, thank you to Neil Hill for refereeing the match on Sunday morning and to those who provided refreshments or assisted in any way over the weekend.
