League v Douglas in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 11th March 2017
Carrigtwohill 0-13 Douglas 1-12
Carrig’s senior hurlers came up just short against Douglas after a hugely spirited performance in round two of the RedFM League. Missing eight players through injury, illness or work commitments Carrig fielded a team that contained just seven players who appeared in last year’s championship. They delivered a heart-warming performance, full of fight and intelligence.
Neither team built up a commanding lead at any stage. It was nip and tuck for most of the first half until Douglas struck for a goal a few minutes before half time. Carrig responded well, however, and went in at the break trailing by just a point. They picked up the pace again in the second half and came from a couple of points down to lead by one with six minutes remaining.
By then Douglas had introduced their former Cork senior Stephen Moylan and the Cork footballer Mark Collins in a concerted attempt to win the points. Carrig missed late opportunities to force a draw at least but the overall performance was hugely encouraging for Carrig.
