Fé 11 Rebel Óg Go Games Football League
The Fé 11 footballers ‘kick’-started 2017 with two football matches.
On Saturday, 18th March, we welcomed St. Catherine’s to West End. Carrig had a good wind-assisted first half and led at half-time, 1-04 to 1-02. We got our noses in front by a point early in the second half but tired as the half progressed. St. Catherine’s got a late flurry of points to win the match, 2-11 to 2-05.
Our second outing was against Mitchelstown on Saturday, 25th March. This match brought the definition of ‘a game of two halves’ to another level. There was a 21 point swing in the scoring differential between the first and second half. Due to some sat-nav and brain malfunctions, resulting in two key players being located in Dungourney and Charleville as the match started, we had depleted numbers for the first half.
Carrig trailed at half-time by 18 points. However, with our full team for the second half, we won that half by 3 points, thanks to a a very spirited display. If we can improve on our point scoring and figure out how to read a map, we should fare better in our upcoming games. The final score in this game was 7-09 to 5-00 in favour of Mitchelstown.
