REBEL ÓG FÉ 12 CENTRAL PREMIER 1 HURLING LEAGUE
Midleton v Carrigtwohill in Midleton, Saturday 3rd June 2017
Midleton 1-04 Carrigtwohill 2-14
The Fé 12 hurlers maintained their winning run in the top tier of the Central hurling league.
Carrig travelled to McSweeney Terrace to play the Magpies with five wins out of five matches in the league, having had a facile 7-11 to 0-01 victory against Blackrock at Church Road on the 5th May, followed by a hard fought 1-07 to 0-05 win against a dogged Fermoy side at West End three weeks later on the 21st May.
Carrigtwohill started brightly by scrambling an early goal but it was not until the 10th minute that they registered their next score – a pointed free. Two more frees, along with a ‘65’ had Carrig with 1-04 on the scoreboard after 19 minutes. Midleton had yet to register a score. To their credit, the Magpies did rally and scored a goal followed by a point two minutes later. Carrigtwohill got the final score of the half – a point from play – in added time.
HT: Midleton 1-01 Carrigtwohill 1-05
The visitors got the first scores (both points) of the second half before trading the next six white flags (three apiece) with Midleton to lead 1-10 to 1-04 just over midway through the second period. Carrig then shifted up a gear for the last 10 minutes of the game, scoring 1-04 to no reply and easing to victory.
Well done to all players and mentors on another solid performance in the Premier 1 grade, which keeps their very impressive winning record intact.
