Championship v Cobh in Cloyne on Friday 14th July 2017
Carrigtwohill 1-5 Cobh 2-24
Carrigtwohill’s interest in this year’s junior championship ended after a tough battle against Cobh in Cloyne last Friday. Carrig will have rued slow starts in the first and second halves which meant that they were always playing catch up.
Cobh were 1-4 to a point up inside 10 minutes when Carrig earned a penalty but Christopher Keegan was unlucky to find the inside of the post with the goalkeeper beaten and the ball was cleared. Carrig battled well for the rest of the half and more than matched the heavy favourites Cobh for large spells but they’ll have looked to convert more of their chances as they trailed at half-time by eight points.
Cobh were again the faster starters in the second half and built a commanding lead before Jamie McCarthy plucked a long ball out of the air and turned the full-back, netting emphatically on 44 minutes. Cobh were never phased however and ran out comfortable winners in the end.
