”The club was brilliant, I’d have great admiration for Carrigtwohill”. Those were the words spoken by Waterford cornerback, Shane Fives, in an interview with Jackie Cahill of the42.ie prior to the All-Ireland semi-final against Cork on Sunday. Shane was a member of our club for two years between 2013 and 2015 and made a lasting impression on those who played with him and knew him. It is clear that the club also made a lasting impression on him. Shane even made the trip to Kilworth last year to watch our senior hurling championship game against Ballyhea.
There were mixed emotions for Carrigtwohill GAA members on Sunday as we saw our own minor star, Aaron Walsh Barry, help Cork secure their place in the minor All Ireland final but also saw the senior Rebels succumb to Fives’ Waterford. Nevertheless, on September 3rd there will be many in Carrigtwohill that will be in Shane’s corner as he seeks to end the Déise’s 58-year wait for All Ireland glory.
