SEÁN TWOMEY MEMORIAL FÉ 11 HURLING TOURNAMENT
Carrigtwohill, Saturday 19th August 2017
Carrigtwohill Juvenile GAA Club hosted this annual hurling tournament on Saturday, 19th August.
There was a slightly unorthodox format to the tournament with only five teams (as opposed to the usual six) competing, due to the late withdrawal of two clubs from the tournament, only one of which was replaced at the eleventh hour.
Carrigtwohill opened the tournament with a win against Fr. O’Neills. There were some excellent skills on display throughout the game. Fermoy beat St Vincent’s in their opening game.
Next up were Fr. O’Neills against St. Vincent’s, which finished in a draw, as Cobh got the better of Fermoy.
The last game of the ‘round robin’ section of the tournament was scheduled between the hosts and Cobh. However, the results and score differences indicated that these two teams would again meet in the final irrespective of the outcome of the last round robin game, so it was decided to have just one game as a final.
Carrigtwohill won the final against Cobh and there were some great performances throughout the team. There was a very large panel of 23 players and every player got a good run-out in the final.
Fermoy were the winners of the Shield final against St. Vincent’s.
Congratulations to the Fé 11 hurlers on their victory. Well done to all the teams, their mentors and supporters on what was a truly enjoyable and sporting occasion.
Carrigtwohill Juvenile GAA Club would like to thank everybody who assisted with the planning, organising, setting up of the pitches and running of the tournament. Thanks also to the ladies who helped out with the food and refreshments on the day. A special word of thanks must also go to Coaching Officer, Kieran Brennan, who arranged for a new base to be fitted to the Seán Twomey Cup, ensuring that it was looking resplendent on the day.
