Rebel Óg Premier 2A Minor Hurling League
Carrig 1-14 (17) Courcey Rovers 3-18 (27)
in Carrig on Wednesday, April 4th.
Referee: Pa Beausang (Midleton)
Carrig’s minor hurlers began their league campaign with defeat against Courceys on a cold Wednesday evening at West End.
Carrig were on the back foot in the first half but battled ably and were only a goal down at half-time, 1-7 to 2-7. David Rooney and Daire Sullivan were working hard at wing-back whilst James Mulcahy and Adrian Brown were industrious at midfield. Sean Walsh was doing well on frees at centre-forward with John Carroll, Shane O’Hanlon and Sean de Búrca causing trouble inside. Carrig responded well to going two goals behind when a loose ball in the Courcey’s six-yard box was kicked home by Carroll to leave one score in it at half time.
Carrig and Courceys traded points after the restart but Courceys started to pull away and a third goal left Carrig with too much to do. Despite that, Carrig had the better of the final ten minutes and competed well, taking some excellent scores but were unable to grab the goal that they needed.
