Junior B County League
Carrig 4-10 (22) Aghabullogue 2-7 (13)
in Carrig on Monday, April 9th.
Referee: Cormac Dineen (Douglas)
Carrig’s junior hurlers got their county league campaign off to a flying start with a well-earned victory over Aghabullogue in dreadful conditions last Monday.
Despite the heavy rain, Carrig managed to play some great hurling and got off to a great start with Ollie Baverstock and Daire Crotty putting us 2 points up inside five minutes. Niall Mulligan then scored a fine goal on 8 minutes before Aghabullogue responded with a green flag of their own. Carrig pushed on from there with Chris Keegan and Jamie McCarthy scoring points either side of a well-taken Baverstock goal. Aghabullogue mustered a point in response but Carrig were unrelenting and Chris Keegan managed to raise another green flag with a ferocious strike at goal. Aghabullogue and Jamie McCarthy traded points to see out the half with Carrig in a commanding position, 3-5 to 1-2.
The second half would prove a more dogged affair as the rain took its toll on the pitch and Carrig had to see out most of the half with 13 men. Carrig put up a great rearguard action however with Shane Healy and Cian Harte in particular cleaning up a world of ball. Aghabullogue scored 3 of the first 4 points of the half with Kelly O’Regan pointing for Carrig. An Ollie Baverstock double restored Carrig’s advantage before another Keegan goal removed any doubt about the result. Aghabullogue put up two more points in response which were matched by a fine Shane Healy strike from distance and a Baverstock free. Aghabullogue put over the final score to finish out the game, 4-10 to 2-7.
