Rebel Óg Premier 2A Minor Hurling League
Carrigtwohill 3-21 (30) Carrigaline 1-9 (12)
in Carrig on Friday, April 13th.
Referee: Cormac Dineen (Douglas)
Carrig secured their first win of this year’s minor hurling league at the second time of asking with a comprehensive dismantling of the visiting Carrigaline side at West End last Friday.
Carrig were 2-1 up inside five minutes with James Mulcahy registering the first point from midfield and inside forwards, Cormac O’Flynn and John Carroll, with a goal apiece. Wing-back David Rooney then hit a superb pair of points from distance, one each either side of a Sean Walsh trio of scores. Shane O’Hanlon added another fine score from wing-forward to leave Carrig 2-7 to no score ahead after twelve minutes. Carrigaline then registered their first score, a goal, on thirteen minutes and followed that up with two more points. Shane O’Hanlon and Sean Walsh traded scores with Carrigaline before another Walsh brace had Carrig in front 2-11 to 1-4 with twenty minutes gone. Carrigaline and Shane O’Hanlon again matched points before Cian Thornton’s score was answered by two more Carrigaline points to end the half, 2-13 to 1-7.
Carrig made a number of changes in the second half, including bringing Daire Sullivan to centre-back and putting Walsh-Barry in goals, but they didn’t let up in their play. Davey Ryan opened the scoring and became the sixth Carrig forward to register a score in the match. Sean Walsh was again to the fore, doing serious damage at centre-forward and full-forward, and he added another three unanswered points. Carrigaline registered one of only two points in the half before Carrig reeled off 1-4 without reply. Cormac O’Flynn, Walsh again, Mulcahy and O’Hanlon added the points with the latter also grabbing a goal. A Carrigaline free was the last score of the game which finished out 3-21 to 1-9. A great win for our minor hurlers and fantastic to see the full contingent of nine subs used.
