RedFM Senior Hurling League
Carrigtwohill 1-15 (18) Newcestown 2-18 (24)
in Carrig on Friday, April 20th.
Referee: Pa Beausang (Midleton)
Carrig are still searching for their first league win after coming up short against Newcestown at West End on a warm Friday evening.
Carrig and Newcestown went in at half-time 0-9 points apiece but Carrig were made to rue missed chances after having the better of the half. Liam Gosnell scored 0-7 of that total with 0-6 coming from placed balls. Sean Rohan opened the scoring inside thirty seconds and Seamus Roche added the other. Carrig were 0-4 to 0-1 up in the first ten minutes before Newcestown established themselves in the game and it was tit-for-tat from there to the half.
Carrig and Newcestown traded scores to begin the half with Brendan McCarthy and a Liam Gosnell free before Newcestown struck a blow with the first goal of the game on forty-one minutes. Aaron Walsh Barry and Seamus Roche responded either side of a Newcestown point to leave the minimum in it with ten minutes to go, 0-13 to 1-11. Brendan Twomey matched another Newcestown point to keep in touch but Newcestown enjoyed a flurry of scores to pull six points clear with time nearly up. Carrig had a glimmer of hope when Brendan McCarthy found the net at the second time of asking, after great work from Liam Gosnell, but Carrig were unable to eke out the draw as Newcestown got a second goal at the death.
Carrig’s attention now turns to a championship clash with Blackrock on Sunday, April 29th, that will be broadcast live on TG4. Carrig will hope to be at full strength for this game for the first time all year.
