Rebel Óg Premier 2A Minor Hurling League
Éire Óg 5-7 (22) Carrig 0-13 (13)
in Ovens on Sunday, April 22nd.
Referee: Johnny Collins (Nemo Rangers)
Despite the score, this was a very even contest between two well-organised teams. Carrig were always at a disadvantage however after conceding the goals but they played some great hurling and can take a lot of confidence into next week’s championship match.
Éire Óg were 2-2 to 0-0 up inside 15 mins before Carrig registered their first score, a Sean Walsh point. Walsh would go on to score the majority of Carrig’s points with a clinical display of free-taking. Just before the half, Carrig had managed to reel in Éire Óg, 0-7 to 2-5, with James Mulcahy adding one point to Walsh’s first-half tally. Éire Óg struck for goal on the half however and went in ahead, 0-7 to 3-5.
Carrig again reduced Éire Óg’s lead to four points after some fantastic early scores from two Walsh frees and an Adrian Browne point from play. However Éire Óg managed to add two further goals to their total either side of a Justin Oke point. Carrig battled ably to the end but the result wasn’t in doubt.
Carrig now look to a championship clash with Killeagh/Ita’s fixed for May 3rd in Castlemartyr at 7.15pm.
