RedFM Senior Hurling League
Carrigtwohill 0-20 (20) Erin’s Own 7-11 (32)
in Carrig on Monday, May 28th.
Referee: Mark Murphy (Bride Rovers)
Carrig are still looking for their first league win after an under-strength team succumbed to a flurry of late Erins Own goals on a sunny evening in Carrig last Monday.
Carrig began brightly and were up 4 points to 1 after five minutes thanks to two Liam Gosnell frees, another from play and a Padraic Hogan free from distance. Erins Own then took the lead however with two goals either side of a Sean Dempsey point, 0-5 to 2-1. Erins Own and Padraic Hogan traded points before Shane Devlin deflected a penalty over the bar with a fine save. Erins Own tacked on another point before answering scores from Tomás Hogan and a third Gosnell free had the score 0-8 to 2-4 after twenty minutes. A second Erins Own penalty found the net and a further point was cancelled out by a fourth Gosnell free to leave the half-time score, 0-9 to 3-5.
Three Carrig points upon the restart had Carrig back within two. Seamus Roche, Brendan Twomey and another Liam Gosnell placed ball were the scores. Two further Erins Own points were answered by a fantastic Gosnell score before Erins Own added a fourth goal. Carrig again attempted to claw back the 6-point deficit and put in a great response by scoring five of the next seven points to once again leave three in it. They included two more Gosnell points and further scores from Twomey, Hogan and Roche. In a familiar pattern to the game however, Erins Own notched a fifth goal and added two further points before two late Hogan points either side of Erins Own’s sixth and seventh goals saw out the match.
Carrig’s attention now turns to football championship this weekend before their next senior hurling league game in Midleton on Saturday, June 16th.
