MHC: Carrig 0-26 Carrigaline 1-14

July 14, 2018

Rebel Óg Premier 2A Minor Hurling Championship
Carrigtwohill 0-26 (26) Carrigaline 1-14 (17)
in Delaneys on Monday, July 9th.
Referee: Mark Maher (St. Finbarrs)

Carrig ran out comfortable winners in the back door of the Premier 2A Minor Hurling Championship but were made to work for their scores on a very warm evening in Delanys.

James Mulcahy opened the scoring from centre-forward but Carrigaline raised three white flags before Justin Oke grabbed Carrig’s second. Carrigaline added two more scores either side of a Sean Walsh free before Justin Oke notched his second; 0-5 to 0-4 to Carrigaline after ten minutes. Carrigaline stretched their lead by a point before James Mulcahy and a trio of Sean Walsh scores (two frees) gave Carrig the lead, 0-8 to 0-6. Walsh and Carrigaline traded scores but Carrigaline restored their lead when a mix-up at the back lead to a goal. The Carrigdhoun side added their eight point with five minutes left in the half. John Carroll and Sean Walsh rounded out Carrig’s total at the half to leave the sides level, 0-11 to 1-8.

Points from Mulcahy and David Folasade were matched by Carrigaline after the restart but Carrig then took a firm hold of the game. Mulcahy’s fourth and two more Walsh frees had Carrig ahead 0-16 to 1-10 before Carrigaline registered their next score. Carrig responded with Mulcahy’s fifth point of the evening and two points from full-forward Ryan O’Donovan; 0-19 to 1-11 on forty minutes. Carrig saw out the game in dominant fashion and took some excellent scores from Walsh, a brace from Kiitan Oke and a third for his younger brother, Justin.

Carrig will now meet Sam Maguires in the quarter-final with the date, time and venue to be confirmed. Well done to players and management on an excellent win and performance.
