Fé 14 Central Premier 2 Hurling Championship Quarter-Final
Carrigtwohill v Bishopstown in Carrigtwohill, Wednesday 22nd August 2018
Carrigtwohill 3-11 Bishopstown 1-08
The Fé 14 hurlers eventually got to grips with a determined Bishopstown team in this championship quarter-final.
Carrigtwohill welcomed their opponents from the western suburbs of the city to Páirc Séamus de Barra for what was probably always going to be a match in which the hosts would struggle to start in
fifth gear. The corresponding league fixture early in the year resulted in a very one-sided match, which Carrig won all too comfortably. The memory of that facile victory was no doubt still lingering in the players’ minds when they lined out for this match.
Carrig got the first two scores of the match, both lovely angled shots struck over the bar from play by Mark O’Connor. Bishopstown levelled matters with two converted frees before Oisín Lynch goaled with a nice ground stroke and Mark O’Connor followed up with a pointed free to make it 1-03 to 0-02 after 20 minutes. Goalkeeper, Fionn Kidney then pulled off a fantastic save and the sides exchanged pointed frees until Bishopstown finally struck for a well taken goal in the 27th minute. They followed that up with two points from play; Carrig’s response being a Mark O’Connor point from right out on the wing. It was stalemate at half-time, 1-05 to 1-05.
The second half started with a Bishopstown point followed up by a pointed Carrig free. Cian O’Riordan then thundered into the game, scoring 1-04 to Bishopstown’s single point to make it 2-10 to 1-07 at the end of normal time. An injury time goal from Eric O’Sullivan and a point from sharpshooting Mark O’Connor put the result beyond any doubt, with Bishopstown getting the final consolation score – a point – right on the long whistle.
Well done to the players and mentors on getting the job done and reaching the semi-final. Next up are Glen Rovers in the semi-final.
