Senior Hurling Championship Round 3
Carrig 0-8 (8) Sars 2-17 (23)
in Ballynoe on Friday, August 31st.
Referee: Cathal McAllister
Carrig bowed out of this year’s senior hurling championship after being outmatched by a strong Sars side in difficult conditions at Ballynoe.
Carrig could not get to grips with Sars in the first half and the situation looked dire at the half with Carrig only able to muster 2 points in the thirty minutes. In contrast Sars appeared more settled and had put up 2-7 by the time the half-time whistle went. Brendan Twomey and Sean Rohan were our scorers.
Emerging for the second half Carrig were in danger of being embarrassed but this team are a proud group with great effort, determination and no little skill. They showed that in the second half and even outplayed Sars for periods in the driving rain. The second half score was 0-6 to 0-10 with Liam Gosnell 0-4 (0-1f), Seamus Roche 0-1 and Sean Rohan 0-1, tallying Carrig’s scores. Our back line was much more settled providing much bettergo forward ball and that second half performance will give some hope for Carrig’s relegation decider with Na Piarsaigh on Saturday, September 22nd.
Scorers: L. Gosnell 0-4 (0-1f), S. Rohan 0-2, B. Twomey 0-1, S. Roche 0-1.
