Carrigtwohill 1-13 (16) Watergrasshill 3-18 (27)
in Carrig on Sunday, November 4th.
Referee: Arthur Murphy (Killeagh)
Carrig came up short against a well-drilled Watergrasshill side in this county league semi-final played out at West End.
Eoghan O’Mahony opened the scoring in the third minute but it would take another fourteen minutes before Luke Kelly would notch Carrig’s second. In that time Watergrasshill had put up five points. A Chris Keegan free and Ollie Baverstock strike sandwiched a Watergrasshill point before the Hill rattled off 1-4 to see out the half. Luke Kelly’s second point was Carrig’s only reply. 1-10 to 0-5 at the half.
Watergrasshill stretched their lead after the restart with two points before a Shane Healy score. Marty McConville then drew a point blank save that was just cleared. Carrig gained a bit of momentum by notching the next three scores through Daire Crotty, Luke Kelly and Niall Mulligan. 1-12 to 0-9 on forty-five minutes. Watergrasshill responded with their first score in ten minutes but Carrig roared back into the contest with a Luke Kelly goal and points from Chris Keegan (0-2) and Shane Healy. That left one point between the sides after fifty-seven minutes. It was Watergrasshill who pushed on however and they finished the stronger with a final Chris Keegan free proving Carrig’s last score.
