RedFM Division 2 Hurling League Round 2
Carrigtwohill 3-18 (27) Kilworth 1-12 (15) in Carrig on Wednesday, March 6th at 7.30pm.
Referee: Trevor Lyons
Carrig emerged from their first home league game of the year with a comprehensive win over Kilworth following an impressive second half goal blitz.
Carrig played into a strong breeze in the first half and found themselves trailing 1-7 to 0-9 at the halfway point. A back and forth half of hurling saw Kilworth edge ahead with a goal inside the first fifteen minutes. However, Carrig kept plugging away and engineered fine scores from Gosnell 0-5 (0-3f), Hogan 0-2, Crotty and Twomey 0-1 apiece to be within striking distance at the restart.
Carrig blew Kilworth away in the second half with Liam Gosnell notching an excellent finish to the net for Carrig’s first goal and further scores from Crotty, Hogan, midfielder Jay Horgan and substitute Eoghan O’Mahony had Carrig well in contro-1-14 to 1-9-heading into the final quarter. Carrig didn’t let up there however and Horgan and O’Mahony grabbed another point each with Daire Crotty also raising another green flag. One of the most eye-catching moments of the half though belonged to Aaron Walsh Barry who caught a ball in the Carrig full-back line, galloped all the way inside the Kilworth ’40, laid a ball off for Tomás Hogan who in turn fed Gosnell, who buried to the net. It was a sublime team goal to round out a confident performance.
Carrig have a win and a draw from their first two league games and will now meet Youghal in round 3 of the hurling league in West End on Friday, March 15th at 8pm.
