RedFM Division 2 Hurling League
Carrig 1-11 Bandon 0-14 in Carrig on Saturday, April 13th at 7.30pm.
Referee: Pa Beausang (Midleton)
Carrig’s last league game before championship next Saturday was a tough affair in torrid conditions at West End. Playing with the strong breeze in the first half Carrig led 0-10 to 0-4 at the break but were pegged back at the death by Bandon.
With the aid of the conditions, Carrig took control of the first half and held a six-point lead at the interval. Gosnell 0-6 (0-4f), Sean Rohan 0-2, Tomás Hogan and Conor O’Mahony 0-1 each were Carrig’s marksmen.
The second half saw Carrig put up a fantastic rearguard display that just fell short of providing the winning spoils. Brendan McCarthy also finished an excellent Carrig goal after fine work from Jamie McCarthy. A Liam Gosnell free was Carrig’s only other score of the half as the conditions deteriorated and a flurry of late Bandon points meant a draw at the final whistle.
Carrig now meet St. Finbarrs in the first round of the Senior Hurling Championship this Saturday at 7.30pm in Riverstown. Carrig currently sit second in the league with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss from their 6 games.
Scorers: L. Gosnell 0-6 (0-4f), B. McCarthy 1-0, S. Rohan 0-2, T. Hogan, C. O’Mahony 0-1 apiece.
