Carrigtwohill v Sarsfields in Carrigtwohill, Saturday 27th April 2019
Carrigtwohill 3-07 Sarsfields 4-11
Carrig never really gained a firm foothold in this game, which was a repeat of last year’s U13 Premier 1 hurling league final.
Playing with the stiff breeze in the first half, Sars had 1-1 on the scoreboard inside the opening sixty seconds. They followed up with another point before Kyle Graham goaled for Carrig to make it 1-0 to 1-02. Sars then scored an unanswered 2-4 to go 13 points clear after 22 minutes before Conor Hill popped up to score a fine point. Sars responded with a point and Seán Brennan converted a brace of frees to make it 1-03 to 3-08 at half-time.
A super goal from a very tight angle by Matthew Barrett along with another Seán Brennan free and a fine point from right out on the left wing by Patrick Walsh brought Carrigtwohill to within eight points of Sars with ten minutes remaining in the game (2-05 to 3-10). Sars responded with a goal and a point to increase the lead. There were late consolation scores from Cillian Barry (a pointed free), Daniel Murnane (goal from a penalty) and Kyle Graham (point from play).
To the team’s credit, they didn’t throw in the towel, having gone so far behind in the first half. Some defensive errors proved costly and Sars were the better team on the day.
Scorers for Carrigtwohill: Kyle Graham 1-1, Matthew Barrett & Daniel Murnane (penalty) 1-0 each, Seán Brennan 0-3 (f), Conor Hill, Patrick Walsh & Cillian Barry (f) 0-1 each.
