East Cork Junior A Football Championship First Round
Carrigtwohill 0-8 Castlemartyr 0-9 in Rostellan on Saturday, May 11th.
Referee: John Kirby (Midleton)
Carrig’s profligacy in front of goal sealed a narrow defeat in the opening round of this year’s football championship. Carrig had a number of chances to clinch at least a draw but the ball wouldn’t drop kindly as Castlemartyr ran out 1-point winners.
Carrig played against the breeze in the first half and despite getting great joy going forward, the finishing touch was lacking. A tit-for-tat series of scores saw the more efficient Castlemartyr side go in at the half ahead.
Despite the aid of the breeze in the second half Carrig couldn’t manage to overhaul the deficit and a series of late chances went a-begging as Carrig pressed hard for an equaliser. On a scorching evening our lads kept battling until the end and will have learned a lot from this defeat.
Carrig have been drawn to play Dungourney in the second round which has been provisionally fixed for Sunday, May 26th.
