RedFM Division 2 Hurling League
Carrig 0-17 (17) Carrigaline 1-13 (16) in Carrig on Saturday, June 15th at 7.30pm.
Referee: Ger Scully (Killeagh)
Carrig ground out a tight win with a late flurry of scores over the visiting Carrigaline side.
Carrig were well on top in the first 20 minutes leading 0-6 to 0-2 with scores from Liam Gosnell, Tomás Hogan and Sean Rohan. A significant injury to a Carrigaline forward stopped play for a lengthy period and everyone in Carrig would like to extend its best wishes to the Carrigaline player. The visitors reacted to the stoppage much better and only trailed by a point in a half that Carrig largely dictated; 0-8 to 0-7 at the whistle with two further scores from Gosnell.
The second half was a much more even affair but Carrig, for the second week in a row, finished much the stronger and ground out a result. After going behind for the first time when Carrigaline goaled Carrig scored six excellent points in the final quarter to go ahead by the minimum. The win was sealed when goalkeeper Shane Devlin saved from a Carrigaline attacker with the last puck of the game. Carrig can also look back on a Pat O’Sullivan goal line clearance in the first half as a pivotal moment.
All in all it was a win that showed great character from the lads and they now have tow league games left against Cloyne and Castlelyons to be confirmed.
