RedFM Division 2 Hurling League
Carrig 1-16 (19) Courcey Rovers 2-13 (19) in Carrig on Sunday, June 9th at 7.30pm.
Referee: Michael Myers (Blarney)
A last minute Eoghan O’Mahony free secured a well-earned draw for an under strength Carrig side in the latest round of the league.
Carrig edged ahead in the first quarter with two scores apiece from Tomás Hogan and Brendan Twomey to Courceys three points. The visitors had much the better of it until half time however, netting two goals and edging ahead at one stage by seven points before a late trio of Carrig scores kept us in touch. Two more Hogan scores and a point apiece from Eoghan O’Mahony and Jamie McCarthy rounded out Carrig’s half-time total. Carrig trailed 2-6 to 0-8 at the break.
Carrig were much improved upon the restart, particularly at the back but struggled to manufacture the scores to get back into the game. A lone Hogan free was all Carrig could muster in the fifteen minutes after the restart. Courceys again edged seven points in front before Carrig dug deep and out-battled and out-hurled the opposition to the end. Carrig scored 1-7 in the last quarter, with the goal coming from a long-range Seamus Roche strike. Further scores from Hogan (0-2), Twomey (0-2) and Conor O’Mahony as well as a brace from Eoghan O’Mahony, including the final puck of the game, earned Carrig a hard-fought draw.
Carrig now travel to Carrigaline for the next bout of the league this Saturday at 7.30pm.
