U14s 2011

This year our U14s are competing in “B” grade at County Level, up 2 grades on last year due to results achieved over the past 2 years. This is a great achievement for such a young club but we are under no illusions as to what lies ahead . We have put a good panel together with plenty of strong personalities and a great eagerness to compete.

Feile in Fr.O`Neills

Carrig went to the Feile in Fr.O`Neills with a young panel. We played 4 x 20 minute games in quick succession and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

First up were Fr.O`Neills. Although beaten by a few goals, Carrig gave a great account of themselves. Our brave Goalkeeper Sophie put her body on the line to prevent a certain goal and was ably replaced by Miriam for the other 2 games.
Inniscarra were up next. The Carrig defenses in this game were outstanding with great performances from Hannah and Taylor. However Inniscarra eventually ran out deserved winners. In our third match we played Ballincollig. The highlight of this game was Leah`s free in the second half which nearly yielded a great goal. Again a great performance by all.

Carrig were like the walking wounded for the last match against Newtownshandrum. In this match we had our own Ben & Jerry in Ellen & Carmel. Eidhin had a great game corner back and a deserved draw was a fair outcome with a last minute point from Carmel.
Well done to all today. You gave the selectors food for thought in the various positions you all played in today.

Feile Panel: Sophie Dicey, Adjoin O’Flynn, Hannah Kierans, Taylor Lane, Niamh O`Mahony, Carmel Cronin, Ceire O`Flynn, Ellen Collins, Courtney Horgan, Sarah Reardon, Aishling Crowley, Sarah Ford, Charlotte Kidney, Miriam Curtin, Lea Brady.

League v Barryroe on 13th April 2011
Carrigtwohill 5-4  Barryroe 0-4

The Celebration of Confirmation weakened our team for the trip to West Cork, fielding the bare 15. However it must be stated that the girls that did play were absolutely superb.  The girls were asked to play in positions that they never played in before and in their second half performance they were outstanding.  Barryroe got off to a great start getting 2 goals inside the first quarter. Our girls never shirked their responsibility, contesting and competing against a physically stronger team.

The half time break came with great relief as the girls got to grips with their bruises and showed maturity beyond their years winning the second half by 2 points. The heart showed by Carmel, Caleigh & Ellen was second to none and the courage of the younger members of the panel including goalkeeper Vanessa was outstanding. These attributes together with the leadership of the two Captains shows the tremendous character of this Great panel of girls.

League v Tracton on 6th April 2011
Carrigtwohill 4-2  Tracton 3-3

This home fixture was a thrilling affair. Both teams were neck and neck for the whole game. What a team performance from our girls. Tracton were first on the scoreboard with a well taken goal followed soon after by a point. Carrigtwohills reply was immediate with a cracking goal from Courtney on the edge of the square. She followed this up with a well taken point to level matters up. Tracton eased ahead with two well taken goals. Just before the Jaffa cakes & oranges Courtney reduced the deficit to five points. On the resumption Aisling rattled the Tracton net from 30 yds. Both teams swapped points thereafter, before Ciara goaled after a storming run from the half back line. With 5 minutes remaining Tracton went up a point. Carrigtwohill made some changes bringing Hannah to the half back line and it paid dividends as she released Ciara who drove at the Tracton defense to raise the green flag for a second time. Carrigtwohill won by two. What a team performance!!Well done to the full panel for your training & commitment.

Challenge v Ballincollig on 2nd April 2011
Carrigtwohill 2-6  Ballincollig 6-2

Our first match of the season saw us face Ballincollig in a challenge. The game started brightly for the home side, with some nice passing and good teamwork.  However, Ballincollig were first to pounce with a goal inside 5 minutes. This was followed by 2 more in quick succession. Carrigtwohill eventually settled into the game with a well pointed free from Sarah, followed by another from Aishling. Carrigtwohill made some switches for the second half and within 5 minutes produced dividends with a great goal from Sarah, followed by points from Courtney and Aishling. Midway through the second half Ballincollig got another goal against the run of play, followed by a point.
Carrigtwohills reply was immediate with a great goal from Carmel to make for an exciting finish.  Ballincollig, however held on for a deserved victory. Great credit to the panel for their performance. Everyone on the day got a game.
