Championship v Killeagh in Castlelyons on August 14th 2011
Carrigtwohill 1-22  Killeagh 2-15 (aet).

Carrigtwohill had to pull out all the stops before eventually defeating Killeagh in the quarter final of the East Cork Championship played in Castlelyons last Sunday night (Aug 14th). Carrig began this game very sluggishly and combined with some very sloppy play were no match for their opponents in the first half.As a consequence Carrig found themselves in serious trouble at the break trailing by 2-7 to 0-5.

After some stern talking by the Carrigtwohill backroom team at half time Carrig were a totally different and reformed outfit in the second period. They showed tremendous heart and determination and slowly whittled away at their opponent's lead point by point (scores coming from frees and play). The decisive moment came in the game when Daniel O'Mahony got in behind the Killeagh defence to put the ball past the advancing Killeagh goalkeeper with less than ten minutes left. This goal leveled matters and two further points put us in front for the first time in the game with time almost up.However Killeagh were not to be outdone and scored two points in added time to send the game into extra time on a scoreline of Carrigtwohill 1-16 to 2-13 for Killeagh.

Carrig were by far the stronger and fitter team in extra time adding on five points in the first period without a reply from their opponents. Carrig sustained the effort in the second period of extra time and with some resolute defending were full value for their victory at the end. After an enthralling and exciting evening's hurling final score read Carrigtwohill 1 22 Killeagh 2 15.

Well done to all concerned. Carrigtwohill now go on to meet the winners of Aghada/St Catherines or Cobh in the Semi Final. Date and venue to be fixed.
