  • 2011 Minor Ladies Football

The minor season is very compact with only one county championship for which they can compete.

The minors started the championship very strongly against Clan na Gael.  Played down in Inishannon the game kicked off in favourable weather conditions.  Throughout the first half Carrig were on top although they failed to show this on the scoreboard.

If it wasn’t for some great saves pulled off by Michelle O’Sullivan Carrig could have been in trouble as Clan na Gael dominated the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half.  Carrig regrouped again in the closing minutes and finished up comfortable winners…

The semi-final was against Dromtariffe and after beating a strong team like Clan na Gael Carrig were confident going into the match.  This is a match that no-one will forget, but for all the wrong reasons.

The Carrig girls battled hard and tough throughout the match despite dirty tackles from Dromtariffe players and intimidation on the sidelines from the parents of Dromtariffe.

Carrig should have won the game, however after 13 minutes of injury time Dromtariffe scored an unsports-like goal to win the match.  Ignoring the screams of pain from one of the Carrig girls, Dormtariffe played on while Carrig stopped.  The term “win at all costs” unfortunately took on a whole new meaning on this night.
