Championship Semi Final v Aghada in Carrigtwohill on Friday 16th November 2012

Carrigtwohill 0-6 Aghada 1-6

Carrigs gallant run in the championship came to an end in Carrigtwohil on Friday night. Carrig knew they were up against it coming into this tie having been beaten convincingly by Aghada in the earlier round. But nevertheless, Carrig went out full heartedly to avenge the drubbing they got in that earlier round and it was Aghada who nervously got out of jail this time. Carrig started the stronger, leading 3pts to 1pt after fifteen minutes thanks to scores from Stephen Dineen and Liam Barry. But then Michael Riordan who was dominating at midfield had to retire due to injury and Aghada took control of the game while Carrig reorganised.

At half time Aghada led by 1-4 to 0-4. Carrig created their fair chances of goals in the first half with Christopher Casey, Marty McConville and Shane Cuddigan tormenting Aghada's defence but were unlucky not to find the net. Carrig were not going down without a fight and dominated the second half against fourteen man Aghada who threw thirteen men into defence to stop Carrig's onslaught. With the introduction of Sean Rohain, Finbarr Browne and Stephen Cotter and with Shane Healy and Stephen Riordain excelling at midfield, wave after wave of attacks by Carrig resulted in two more points. Oliver Cooney and Domnic Cronin adding to the tally reducing the gap between the teams to two points, going into the closing stages. But that elusive goal needed to clinch this game did not come and Aghada scored a rare breakaway point to secure the win despite the tremendous team work of the defence of Domnic Cronin ,Ted Sullivan,Padraic Hogan,Seamus Roche,Tomas Hogan, young Dylan Schriven and Eoghan O Mahony in goals.
