Championship v Brian Dillons in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday 18th January 2012

Carrigtwohill 0-06 Brian Dillons 0-13

Our minor footballers exited the football championship last Wednesday night against a physically stronger Brian Dillons side. Having lost the toss we had to play against a stiffish wind in the opening half. This put us under severe pressure in the first half but our lads were more than up to the task. Defending with great discipline and putting in some great tackles it would be wrong to mention individual performances from the backs who at times were heroic consistently putting their bodies on the line. We held Brian Dillons to four points and managed to score two ourselves to leave us trailing by just two points at half time. Sadly for us the wind was no longer a factor in the second half.

The effort the lads made in the opening period seemed to have taken its toll in the first ten minutes of the second half where Brian Dillons took complete control especially around the middle third of the field. Midway through that half Dillons led by six points and looked as if they would steam roll us. However our lads dug in and we were very unlucky not to goal twice when Sean Rohan had the ball in the back of the net only for the ref to pull back the play for a foul on Brendan McCarthy and Dylan Scriven was unfortunate not to find the net a few minutes later. A goal than could have given us the momentum to go on and win the game. However it was not to be Eoghan O Mahony now operating out the field got two nice points but as we pushed up the field trying to get the goal that would get us back into the game Brian Dillons caught us on the break to get a couple of late scores to win by seven points in the end.

Great effort by our lads on the night. Brian Dillons were just physically stronger than us and were deserving winners in the end.

League v Ballinhassig in Carrigtwohill on Friday 13th January 2012

Carrigtwohill 0-14 Ballinhassig 1-08

A work man like performance from the lads where we laboured for parts of the game which was understandable as eight played under 21 hurling the night before and also this was our first football game since the 3rd of May.

Conditions didn\'t help either where it rained consistently for the hour and it was very difficult to control the ball.On the night we had a few impressive performances Sean Rohan scored a couple gems from open play while the introduction of Jay Horgan and Cathal O Sullivan
added urgency to our play. Oliver Cooney also impressed in defence.

A big improvement will have to made for the next night when we play Brian Dillions in championship.

Team - Eoghan O'Mahony, Brian O'Mahony, Jack Barden, Cian O'Mahony, Oliver Cooney, John Carey, Brian Cashman, Darren O'Driscoll, Dylan Scriven, Sean Rohan, Shane Murphy, Gary Moriarty, Cian O Shea, Conor McCarthy, Maurice Curtin.

League v Eirn's Own in Caherlag on Thursday 3rd May

Carrigtwohill 0-07 Erins Own 5-08

Very disappointing performance by our Minors footballers last Thursday night. This game was over as a contest at half time having conceded four goals in the final quarter of the half. Having got off to a good start we looked very lively early on, however we kicked six consecutive wides before Erins Own got their first score. Still only two points down we got frustrated with our shooting and from this we began making poor decisions and from one of these Erins Own got their opening goal.In fairness to the lads they put in a very good second half and on another day we would have had a couple of goals. Cian O Shea had a penalty well saved while Conor McCarthy and Sean Rohan were also unlucky not to goal.

Team - Shane Murphy, Luke Kelly, John Carey Jamie McCarthy, Brendan McCarthy, Jay Horgan, Austin Creagh, Christopher Keegan, Cathal O'Sullivan, Frank Kearns, Eoghan O'Mahony, Oliver Cooney, Jack Barden, Sean Rohan, Cian O'Shea.

League v Aghbullough in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday 14th March

Carrigtwohill 0-10 Aghbullough 1-09

A third league game for our Minor footballers last Wednesday night where we just fell short in the end. Having played Killeagh in an earlier round and been well beaten, with Aghbullough only losing by a point to them we knew that we were going to be up against it.

However our lads rose to the challenge. Playing a free flowing brand of football with a huge work ethic we were unlucky to be down 2 points at the break having missed a couple of clear goal chances.

In the second half we got completely on top with Christopher Keegan dominating both kick outs John Carey, Austin Creagh and Jay Horgan driving us forward and up front Eoghan O Mahony both from frees and play getting some nice points.Shane Murphy was to pull off two point blank saves 5 minutes from the end and with time nearly up Gary Moriarty pointed to leave the minimum between the teams. However from their kick out Aghbullough won the breaking ball their centre forward scored an excellent individual point and from the resulting resumption in play Barry Day blew up for full time.

An excellent show on the night a small bit more composure in front of goal would have resulted in a win for our lads.

Team - Shane Murphy, Ronan Higgins, Cian O Mahony, Brian O Mahony, Austin Creagh, Jay Horgan, John Carey, Cathal McCarthy, Dylan Scriven, Christopher Keegan (0-01), Eoghan O Mahony (0-06 (3F), Cian O Shea, Conor McCarthy (0-01) Shane Devlin, Oliver Cooney.

Subs - Sean Rohan for Shane Devlin, Frank Kearns for Conor McCarthy, Jack Barden for Brian O Mahony

League v Cobh in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 3rd March

Carrigtwohill 2-04 Cobh 3-05

Our minor footballers were very unlucky not to come away with the 2 points last Sunday morning in this "A" league game against a very lively Cobh team in Carrigtwohill.

Playing against a very stiff wind in the first half we were very much up against it and did very well to be only 2-04 to 1 point down at half time. Eoghan O' Mahony getting our single score. A very strong shower just before the end of the half resulted in the wind not being
as stiff in the second half. However our lads worked incredibly hard to get back into the game. With John Carey now operating at wing back, Darren O Driscoll and Cathal O Sullivan getting a foothold around midfield we clawed our way back into the game and goals by Christopher Keegan and Oliver Cooney left only the minimum between the teams. However just as it seemed we were going to go on and win the game we hit the crossbar with a goal scoring chance while Cobh goaled with one of their few attacks of the second half.

Team- Maurice Curtin, Ronan Higgins, John Carey, Brian O Mahony, Austin Creagh, Dylan Scrivin, Shane Murphy, Cathal O Sullivan, Sean Rohan, Oliver Cooney (1-1), Eoghan O Mahony 0-2(F), Christopher Keegan (1-1) Gary Moriarty, Conor McCarthy, Shane Devlin

Subs Cian O Mahony for Maurice Curtin, Darren O Driscoll for Sean Rohan, Jay Horgan for Shane Devlin, Frank Kearns for Dylan Scrvin all half time. Dylan Scribbin for Austin Creagh 55 mins.

League v Killeagh on Sunday 5th

Killeagh 3-12 Carrigtwohill 0-4

Our Minor Footballers had their first day out last Saturady the 4th of February where the opposition was a physically stronger. Having struugled for most of the half Carrig came more into the game with Sean Rohan been particularly effective having been moved to midfield. We were very unlucky not to goal five minutes from half time when a well worked move resulted in a good save by the Killeagh goalkeeper from Cian O Shea. However two minutes later Killeagh struck for their first goal to leave the score at half time 1-05 to 0-1.

The second half had just got under way when poor defending on our behalf let a Killeagh forward straight through on goals giving Eoghan O Mahony no chance in goals. From there on in it was an up hill task but in fairness to our lads they continued to the bitter end with Oliver Cooney getting a great point from play and Conor McCarthy unlucky not to goal.

On the day the lads gave it there all especially as we have no ball work done and were up against a much fitter Killeagh team. We had particularly good performances on the day from Eoghan O Mahony in goal, Shane Murphy and Brian O Mahony in defence, while Sean Rohan and Oliver Cooney worked hard up front.

Team - Eoghan O Mahony, Austin Creagh, Shane Devlin, Brian O Mahony, Ronan Higgins, Jack Barden, Shane Murphy, Jay Horgan, Conor McCarthy, Oliver Cooney (0-01), John Carey, Cathal O Sullivan, Sean Rohan, Cian O Shea, Christopher Keegan (3Frees).

Subs - Shane Walsh for Shane Devlin, Frank Kearns for Conor McCarthy, Maurice Curtin for Cian O Shea.
