County Premier 2 League Final v Fermoy in Delaneys on Saturday 3rd November 2012
Carrigtwohill 2-03  Fermoy 2-11

Our 21st and final minor hurling game for 2012 ended in disappointment where we were beaten by a physically stronger Fermoy side.
Having had to start without Brendan McCarthy who had been in great form due to injury it was noticeable that we struggled upfront for scores through out the hour.

Both teams found it difficult for scores in the first half, Fermoy led by two points midway through that first period when a long ball sent in by Christopher Keegan went straight to the net.  We had previously been unlucky not to have goaled twice, first hitting the post and than Ciaran Gosnell going close. The latter part of the half Fermoy got three points and Shane Devlin pulled off a wonderful save to deny Fermoy a certain goal.

We started to get on top early in the second half but missed a number of chances to close the gap.  We were  to be punished for these when Fermoy got there first goal to put them seven points ahead.  Eoghan O Mahony was introduced as a second half sub and got a brilliant goal with eleven minutes to go.  Our joy was short-lived when Fermoy goaled again two minutes later which really killed any chance of victory for us.

In fairness to the lads they never gave up O Mahony was unlucky not to get a second goal while we also again hit the post.  Fermoy ran out deserving winners in the end.
On the day our defence was outstanding in particular Shane Devlin in goal our two corner backs Brian Cashman and Ronan Higgins and also Cathal O Sullivan at wing back.  Jay Horgan had a fine game having been sick all week.
Great credit to the lads for the year having won the non exam 12 aside, got to the final of the league and losing in the quarter final of the championship after extra time.

Team - Shane Devlin, Ronan Higgins, Jack Barden, Brian Cashman Oliver Cooney, Shane Murphy, Cathal O Sullivan, Dylan Scriven,
Jay Horgan, Darren O Driscoll, Sean Rohan, Christopher Keegan, Conor McCarthy, Jamie McCarthy, Ciaran Gosnell
Subs: Eoghan Mahony for Conor McCarthy, Frank Keirns for Oliver Cooney, Austin Creagh for Jack Barden, Maurice Curtin for Jamie McCarthy.

League Semi Final v Valley Rovers in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 27th October 2012

Carrigtwohill 2-19 Valley Rovers 1-6

Carrig's minor hurlers reached the final of the county league with an emphatic win over Valley Rovers in Carrig on Saturday. Carrig were never in danger after a strong first half performance put them 2-10 to 1-4 in front, the goals coming from the McCarthy brothers, Conor and Brendan in the full forward line.

Sean Rohan was once again outstanding at centre forward, leading the attack with direct and productive play, picking off some good scores and making chances for others. Jay Horgan was dominant at centre field and none of Carrig's defenders were in any trouble. Shane Devlin made a brilliant save when called upon mid-way through the second half but in general he was well protected by the players in front of him.

Ciaran Gosnell, Christopher Keegan, Darren O'Driscoll and Jamie McCarthy were also on the scoresheet in a well rounded Carrig performance.

Carrig: Shane Devlin, Ronan Higgins, Dylan Scriven, Brian Cashman, Ollie Cooney, Shane Murphy, Cathal O'Sullivan, Darren O'Driscoll, Jay Horgan, Jamie McCarthy, Sean Rohan, Christopher Keegan, Ciaran Gosnell, Brendan McCarthy, Conor McCarthy.

Carrig Subs: Eoghan O'Mahony, Jack Barden, Luke Kelly, Maurice Curtin, Frank Kearns, Austin Creagh, Adam McNamara.

League Quarter Final v Blarney in Carrigtwohill on Friday 19th October 2012

Carrigtwohill 5-22 Blarney 3-10

A real team performance and definitely our best showing of the year where the lads showed plenty of hard work, endeavour and most important of all team work. Blarney were missing a couple of players on the night but this should not take away from the way we played moving the ball quickly into the full forward and it was this line that did all the damage in the first half hour. Goals from Conor McCarthy (2) and Ciaran Gosnell (3) had this game over as contest by half time. Brendan McCarthy was in great form getting some great scores and making three of the above goals in that first half.In defence we were disciplined Shane Murphy was back to his best having recovered from his knee injury as was Shane Devlin in goal.

In the second half we used a number of subs and all contributed to the win. Luke Kelly got three nice scores late in the game while Sean Rohan was a constant thorn to the Blarney defence all evening.

We now play Valley Rovers in the County league semi final on Sunday the 26th October. The lads have plenty to work on especially their shooting for the next day.

Team - Shane Devlin, Ronan Higgins, Jack Barden, Brian Cashman, Oliver Cooney, Shane Murphy, Cathal O Sullivan, Darren O Driscoll, Jay Horgan, Christopher Keegan, Sean Rohan, Jamie McCarthy, Ciaran Gosnell, Brendan McCarthy, Conor McCarthy.

Subs - Dylan Scriven, Eoghan O Mahony, Maurice Curtin, Frank Keirns, Austin Creagh, Stephen Flynn, Adam McNamara, Luke Kelly, Gary Moriarty.

Championship v Newtownshandrum in Mallow on Tuesday 21st August 2012

Carrigtwohill 2-14 Newtownshandrum 3-17

The end of the road for our minor hurlers where Newtownshandrum got the better of us in the end and were marginally the better side on the night. There was nothing between the sides early however it was noticeable that we were placing a huge reliance on Christopher Keegan frees for our scores. With the game level at 6 points each Newtown were to win a soft penalty which was converted in the 23rd minute. We replied with another Christopher Keegan free to leave us trailing 0-07 to 1-06 at half time.

Newtown took complete control early on in the second half and were to goal again early in that half followed by a couple of points to leave us trailing by seven points. At this stage it looked as if we had a mountain to climb but in fairness to our lads they never stopped trying. A long ball by Cathal O Sullivan was caught by Ciaran Gosnell now operating a full forward and he gave the goalie no chance. This was followed by points from Conor McCarthy who was our most impressive forward on the night and Jay Horgan to leave only a goal between the sides. With nearly time up a run by Ciaran Gosnell down the wing resulted in a cross that was finished to the net by Christopher Keegan. From the resulting puck out Newtown won a free which was converted. In our final attack Sean Rohan won a free 60 yards out which was expertly put over by Christopher Keegan.

In extra time we seemed to completely lose our way with Newtown getting 4 unanswered points in the opening ten minutes and the killer came a few minutes later when their corner forward got a brilliant goal. On the night Ronan Higgins, Jack Barden and Brian Cashman did well in defence. Jay Horgan and Cathal O Sullivan won their fair share of ball at midfield while Conor McCarthy and Ciaran Gosnell always looked dangerous on a limited supply of ball.

Team - Stephen Flynn, Ronan Higgins, Jack Barden, John Carey, Austin Creagh, Brian Cashman, Oliver Cooney, Cathal O Sullivan,
Jay Horgan 0-01, Christopher Keegan 1-10(10F), Dylan Scriven, Brendan McCarthy, Conor McCarthy 0-02 , Jamie McCarthy,

Ciaran Gosnell 1-01.

Subs - Sean Rohan for Oliver Cooney, Eoghan O'Mahony for Jamie McCarthy, Frank Kierans for Austin Creagh,
Jamie McCarthy for Conor McCarthy (inj).

Championship v Brian Dillons in CIT on Thursday 9th August 2012

Carrigtwohill 1-16 Brian Dillons 0-10

A well earned victory for our Minor hurlers where we now go onto meet Newtownshandrum on the 21st August.

Having conceded a goal in the first minute in our previous championship game we were to goal in our first attack when a Jay Horgan long ball was finished to the net by Brendan McCarthy. Two minutes later Jamie McCarthy was very unlucky when his shot crashed off the crossbar. For the remainder of the half we dominated with Sean Rohan having a huge influence up front and Christopher Keegan showing great accuracy with his frees we led at half time by 1-08 to 0-03.

Brian Dillons came at us in the second half but we defended resolutely. John Carey, Jack Barden and Ronan Higgins were always in control in the full back line, Stephen Flynn was assured in goals while Brian Cashman was solid at centre back. Up front Sean Rohan continued to cause Dillons defence all sorts of trouble and he got two valuable second half points for us when it looked like Brian Dillons
were going to get back into the game. Great win on the night considering we were missing six players who played against Watergrasshill the last night.

Team - Stephen Flynn, John Carey, Jack Barden, Ronan Higgins, Oliver Cooney, Brian Cashman, Austin Creagh, Eoghan O Mahony, Jay Horgan, Christopher Keegan 0-08 (0-06F) Sean Rohan 0-04, Ciaran Gosnell (0-01), Conor McCarthy, Jamie McCarthy 0-02, Brendan McCarthy 0-01.

League v Fr. O'Neills in Ballymacoda on Wednesday 25th July 2012

Carrigtwohill 3-15 Fr. O'Neills 2-11

Our final league of the year and with it our most accomplished performance. We had only 17 players available due to injury and holidays however all 17 made a significant contribution on the night. Playing into the scoring goals in the first half we dominated that opening period. Sean Rohan was outstanding all through and Sean was involved in two of our three goals scored in that first half scored by Eoghan O Mahony (2) and Jamie McCarthy. Conor McCarthy, Christopher Keegan and Sean Rohan got some great points to give us a half time lead of 3-07 to 0-07. We got an early score in the second half from a free won by Luke Kelly who was introduced at half time for the injured Ronan Higgins. We failed to score for the next 15 minutes and our backs were really to the wall at times.

Even though O Neill's got two goals we defended resolutely and with discipline. John Carey was super throughout and is now starting to show the form he had prior to the leaving Cert. Brian Cashman was rock solid at centre back as were Austin Creagh, Frank Keirns and Jay Horgan. Three points was as close as O'Neills got to us. Moving Jamie McCarthy to midfield where we started to win the so called dirty ball and Christopher Keegan to full forward helped us lift the siege. Points from Sean Rohan, Eoghan Mahony and a couple from Christopher Keegan gave us victory in the end. Christopher had a great last 10 minutes when the game was in the balance and dominated when the ball was in the air. Fr O'Neills were short a couple of players on the night as well but having put up a score of 1-21 in their championship game our lads can be well please with their nights work.

Team - Shane Devlin, John Carey, Jack Barden, Ronan Higgins, Austin Creagh, Brian Cashman, Frank Keirns, Jay Horgan,

Oliver Cooney, Gary Moriarty, Sean Rohan, Christopher Keegan, Conor O'Mahony, Jamie McCarthy, Eoghan O'Mahony.

Subs - Luke Kelly, Maurice Curtin.

Championship v Watergrasshill in Killeagh on Wednesday July 4th 2012

Carrigtwohill 1-10 Watergrasshill 1-13

A hugely disappointing performance on the night where we never really got going and the team now need to pick themselves up for a back door game on the 26th July.

A goal in the first minute of the game for Watergrasshill set the tone. We never really

recovered from this early set back and in the end this score was the deciding factor.

In the first half we struggled to get to the pace of championship hurling especially around

the middle third of the field. Shane Murphy and Ronan Higgins hurled well for the hour

in defence and we eventually cut out any of their early goal threat.

Sean Rohan up front continued to show his recent good form and Jamie McCarthy worked v

ery hard throughout. Jamie was very unlucky not to goal 15 minutes from time when we were

5 points down and hit the crossbar. He was eventually to goal a minute from time as a result

of a great run and finish. With 5 minutes to go we had only scored 8 points which would win no hurling match. In fairness to our lads they never gave up and in that last couple of minutes

we scored 1-02 to finish strongly but it was not enough in the end.

Team - Shane Devlin, Ronan Higgins, Shane Murphy, Brian Cashman, Cathal O Sullivan, Jay Horgan, Jack Barden, Ciaran Gosnell, Dylan Scriven, Eoghan O Mahony, Darren O Driscoll, Jamie McCarthy, Brendan McCarthy, Sean Rohan, Christopher Keegan.

Subs - Conor McCarthy for Eoghan O Mahony, Gary Moriarty for Christopher Keegan, Austin Creagh for Cathal O Sullivan,
Oliver Cooney for Brian Cashman.

League v Newtownshandrum in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 23rd June 2012

Carrigtwohill 2-14 Newtownshandrum 3-12

A very disappointing defeat where we now have to rely on other results if we are to qualify for a semi final place in the league. For the first time in the league we got off to a really good start considering the game was delayed for 20 minutes as no referee turned up. Leading after 15 minutes by four points to one we were well in control of the game making all the right decisions. However for the remaining quarter we completely lost our way over elaborating up front and conceding soft frees in defence. A goal just before half time gave Newtown a 1-08 to 0-05 at half time.

A number of positional switches at half time seemed to galvanise the lads. Jay Horgan started to dominate at centre back, Ciaran Gosnell and Dylan Scriven were working a lot harder in midfield and the forwards as a unit started to get excellent scores in particular Sean Rohan who had his best outing to date. Level at 2-12 a piece and with the game in the melting pot Newtown were to goal with
three minutes remaining. Our lads never gave up and Darren O Driscoll, Gary Moriarty points just left us come up short in the end.

Great game for our lads in terrible conditions where it rained for the majority of the game and was bitterly cold.

This was our final game before championship which is fixed for the 4th July.

Team - Shane Devlin, Ronan Higgins, Shane Murphy, Brian Cashman, Austin Creagh, Darren O Driscoll, Oliver Cooney,
Cathal O Sullivan, Jay Horgan, Eoghan O Mahony, Dylan Scriven, Ciaran Gosnell, Jamie McCarthy, Christopher Keegan, Sean Rohan.

Subs - John Carey, Frank Keirns, Brendan McCarthy, Gary Moriarty, Luke Kelly.

Non Exam League Final in Carrig na bhFear on Monday 18th June 2012

Carrigtwohill 3-13 Carrig na bhFear 1-12

A great win for our lads where we had to dig out a victory against a Carrig na bhfear team who had a numbers of players back who were missing from our previous meeting two weeks ago. Played in very heavy under foot conditions in Carrig na bhfear an early goal as a result of an error by their goalkeeper got us off to the perfect start. They replied soon after with a goal which gave Brendan McCarthy no chance. The remainder of the half was fought at real championship pace. We got a couple of stand out points from Darren O Driscoll, Shane Murphy (2) from centre back and a clinical goal from Christopher Keegan. We led at half time 2-08 to 1-09.

On the turnover Christopher was to goal for a second time and throughout the game he was a constant threat to the Carrig na bhfear backs. Eoin O Mahony worked really hard when moved to wing forward and in defence Jay Horgan, Shane Murphy and Ronan Higgins defended resolutely. Darren O Driscoll was to keep the score board ticking over with his frees. Carrig na bhfear created a clear cut goal scoring chance near the end but was dealt brilliantly by Brendan McCarthy. Well deserved victory for our lads who have shown huge commitment throughout the 6 weeks of the competition epitomised by Cathal O Sullivan and Austin Creagh who both just returned from holidays to play the final.

Conor McCarthy accepted a set of T-shirts on behalf of the team. Conor was unable to play on the night as a result of a virus.

Brendan McCarthy, Ronan Higgins, Oliver Cooney, Frank Keirns, Shane Murphy, Jay Horgan, Cathal O'Sullivan, Dylan Scriven,

Darren O'Driscoll, Sean Rohan, Eoin O'Mahony, Christopher Keegan.

Subs: Ciaran Gosnell, Brian Cashman, Austin Creagh, Luke Kelly

Non Exam League v Carrig na bhFear in Carrigtwohill on Monday 4th June 2012

Carrigtwohill 3-16 Carrig na bhFear 1-07

Our most accomplished performance playing 12 a side where our defending and tackling was excellent while our forwards looked dangerous throughout. Having got a couple of early scores through Darren O'Driscoll and Christopher Keegan and with Eoghan O' Mahony unlucky not to goal early on we eventually made the break through when a long ball was caught by Christopher Keegan
and he made no mistake to have us leading 1-10 to 1-04 at half time.

We took complete control in the second half, Ronan Higgins had his best game of the year, Cathal O Sullivan and Shane Murphy continued to supply quality ball to the forwards while up front the lads worked really hard. Two great goals from Maurice Curtin and Brendan McCarthy (having started in goals) gave us a comfortable comfortable victory in the end. Our final game will be against Charleville a Premier 1 team. This will be a big step up from our other games as teams we played previously are in a grade lower
than us in the 15 aside.

Team- Brendan McCarthy, Ronan Higgins, Oliver Cooney, Frank Keirns, Shane Murphy, Cathal O Sullivan, Dylan Scriven, Sean Rohan, Darren O Driscoll, Conor McCarthy, Eoghan O Mahony, Christopher Keegan.

Subs - Gary Moriarty for Sean Rohan, Maurice Curtin for Eoghan O Mahony, Luke Kelly for Dylan Scriven, Jay Horgan for Darren O Driscoll,
Eoghan O Mahony for Christopher Keegan.

Non exam League v Buttevant in Carrigtwohill on Thursday 31st May 2012

Carrigtwohill 5-20 Buttevant 2-12

A comfortable victory for our Minors in this non-exam league game against a very young Buttevant side who had seven under 16's playing.

With Shane Murphy back at centre back and dominating and with the help of the other backs our forwards were given a plentiful supply of good quality ball.
Goals from Christopher Keegan and Eoghan O Mahony had us leading by seven points at half time. That first half saw the introduction of Sean Rohan after being out for the last number of weeks. Sean was to have a great game when introduced and scored one of our three second half goals.

Further goals by Christopher Keegan and Eoghan O Mahony in that second half gave us an easy win in the end against a Buttevant side who never gave up.

Team: Brendan McCarthy, Oliver Cooney, Frank Keirns, Ronan Higgins, Shane Murphy, Cathal O Sullivan, Dylan Scriven, Conor McCarthy, Christopher Keegan, Gary Moriarty, Darren O Driscoll, Eoghan O Mahony.

Subs: Luke Kelly, Sean Rohan.

Non exam League v Erins Own in Caherlag on Friday 25th May 2012

Carrigtwohill 3-16 Erins Own 3-11

Two great goals by Luke Kelly in the second half swung this game for us where victory seemed unlikely especially in the first half. Having created a number of goal opportunities early on we finally hit the net through Eoghan O Mahony after 10 minutes. This was the only time in the first half where we led. Every time Erins Own attacked in that first half we looked as if we would concede a goal and midway through the half our sloppy defending was punished clinically by Erins Own three times. Points by Conor McCarthy and Gary Moriarty kept us in touch and at half time Erins Own led on a score of 3-07 to 1-08.

A couple of positional changes at half time had the desired effect. Dylan Scriven was moved to the full back line to stop Erins Owns scoring threat while Brendan McCarthy came in a full forward and got a number of excellent points. Jay Horgan and Darren O Driscoll had huge second half\'s and it was two super passes from Jay Horgan to Luke resulted in us getting those all important goals and victory.

Team - Shane Devlin, Adam McNamara, Ronan Higgins, Frank Keirns, Darren O Driscoll, Cathal O Sullivan, Jay Horgan, Conor McCarthy, Dylan Scriven, Gary Moriarty, Christopher Keegan, Eoghan O Mahony.

Subs - Luke Kelly, Brendan McCarthy.

Non exam League v Kilmeen/Kilbree in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 19th May 2012

Carrigtwohill 2-17 Kilmeen/Kilbree 1-07

Our second 12 a side non exam game for our minor hurlers where we really only got on top in the last 15 minutes. Kilmeen/Kilbree who are from West Cork got off to a much better start and were far better in their distribution. We struggled to get to grips with the 12 a side game where you play with two in the full back line, one in midfield two in the full forward line and a normal half back half forward line.

Conor McCarthy was our most impressive player in the first half and got a couple of very goods points and we led on a score of 8 points to 1-04 at half time.

The move of Christopher Keegan to full forward and with Jay Horgan at midfield Shane Murphy, Ronan Higgins, Adam McNamara dominating at the back we ran out comfortable winners in the end. Well done to the lads for turning up on the night of the Champions league final and showing huge commitment.

Team - Shane Devlin, Adam McNamara, Ronan Higgins, Darren O Driscoll, Shane Murphy, Jay Horgan, Gary Moriarty,
Christopher Keegan, Eoghan O Mahony Maurice Curtin, Conor McCarthy.

Subs - Frank Kerins for Gary Moriarty, Luke Kelly for Darren O Driscoll, Brendan McCarthy for Maurice Curtin

League v Fermoy in Fermoy on Thursday 26th April

Carrigtwohill 1-07 Fermoy 0-08

A second league victory for our minor hurlers was all about hardwork and doing the basics well. Played on a bitterly cold and wet evening with the pitch playing very heavy it was difficult to play any sort of good hurling. A goal early on from Christopher Keegan as a result of a great catch and finish got us off to a great start. For the remainder of the half it became very much a battle and two further points from Conor McCarthy had us leading 1-02 to 3 points at half time.

The second half was very much the same and with the rain continuing to fall the game continued like the first. The introduction of Brendan McCarthy who got three excellent scores and a point by Jamie McCarthy had us leading by 4 points with 10 minutes to go. However we than lost Shane Murphy through injury and this seemed to have an unsettling effect on us. We clung on in the end through some outstanding defending from the backs as a unit with Brian Cashman giving an exhibition of corner back play. A great team effort. Twenty one players turned up on a terrible night and great credit is due to everyone of them as on the night it was a huge physical challenge
with three of Fermoys six forwards over six foot.

Team - Shane Devlin, Austin Creagh, Jack Barden, Brian Cashman, Ronan Higgins, Shane Murphy, Frank Keirns, Jay Horgan,

Ciaran Gosnell (0-01F), Christopher Keegan (1-00), Darren O Driscoll, Gary Moriarty, Eoghan O Mahony, Conor McCarthy (0-02),

Sean Rohan.

Subs Jamie McCarthy (0-01) for Sean Rohan, Brendan McCarthy (0-03) for Gary Moriarty, Alamadae Oki for Shane Murphy,
Luke Kelly for Eoghan O Mahony, Adam McNamara for Frank Keirns.

Sub Goalie Stephen O Flynn

League v Killeagh/Itas in Killeagh on Thursday 19th April
Carrigtwohill 2-14 Killeagh/Itas 2-16

A very entertaining game where our minor hurlers played Killeagh in Killeagh on a bitterly cold evening last Thursday night. Electing to play with the elements in the first half we again were slow to get out of the blocks and were trailing 5 points to 2 after 15 minutes. However for the remainder of the half we started to dominate. Shane Murphy and Jack Barden took charge at the back Jay Horgan and Ciaran Gosnell began to own midfield while Brendan McCarthy who was outstanding throughout Jamie McCarthy and Gary Moriarty began to cause problems for the Killeagh full back line. Goals from Sean Rohan and Jamie McCarthy the first as a result of great work from Brendan McCarthy the second from a brilliant pass from Gosnell had us in front at the break 2-07 to 2-05.

Again a sluggish start to the second half had killeagh level. We soon settled down and with Christopher Keegan now operating a centre forward doing well under our puck outs we were going point for point with Killeagh. We created a number of goal chances in the second period but unfortunately we were unable to take any of them and two late points as a results of poor decisions on our part resulted in Killeagh getting the win in the end. Our lads put up a huge show on the night against a far more physically strong Killeagh team who last February beat us comprehensively in football.

Team - Eoghan O'Mahony, Ronan Higgins, Jack Barden, Brian Cashman, Oliver Cooney, Shane Murphy, Dylan Scriven, Jay Horgan, Ciaran Gosnell, Cathal O Sullivan, Sean Rohan, Christopher Keegan, Darren O Driscoll, Jamie McCarthy, Gary Moriarty

Subs Brendan McCarthy for Darren O Driscoll, Alamade Oki for Cathal O Sullivan, Maurice Curtin for Gary Moriarty.

League v Cloyne in Carrigtwohill on Thurday 12th April 2012

Carrigtwohill 1-16 Cloyne 4-08

Hurling at home in our second league game we were down four goals at half time. Playing with no aggression and work rate we conceded four poor goals in the opening half. Our only scores coming from Eoghan O'Mahony frees. Bringing on five subs at half time together with making a number of positional changes our fellas played with renewed energy and commitment.
Winning the battle around the middle third of the field through Shane Murphy, Jay Horgan and Ciaran Gosnell and up front Sean Rohan, Brendan McCarthy and Jamie McCarthy looking a lot more threatening.

Scoring 1-14 in the second half we just ran out of time and went down by a point in the end. Huge second half performance which argues well for the rest of the year.

Team - Shane Devlin, John Carey, Jack Barden, Oliver Cooney, Ronan Higgins, Jay Horgan, Austin Creagh, Cathal O'Sullivan,
Dylan Scriven, Colin Moriarty, Eoghan O'Mahony, Christopher Keegan, Maurice Curtin, Sean Rohan, Conor McCarthy.

Subs - Brendan McCarthy for Conor McCarthy, Darren O'Driscoll for Eoghan O'Mahony, Jamie McCarthy for Maurice Curtin,
Shane Murphy for Austin Creagh, Ciaran Gosnell for Colin Moriarty.

League v Castlelyons in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday 4th April 2012

Carrigtwohill 0-13 Castlelyons 1-07

On a bitterly cold evening we played Castlelyons at home in our opening league fixture where we came out on top by 3 points.

Electing to play against the wind in the opening half our lads worked tirelessly to hold Castlelyons to six points in the first half. Jack Barden was doing well at full back ably assisted by Oliver Cooney and John Carey while Maurice Curtin was desperately unlucky not to goal with the Castlelyons goalie pulling off a wonderful save.

Playing with the elements in the second half we immediately started to get on top. Darren O Driscoll was doing well at centre forward, Jamie McCarthy was looking dangerous around the small square while our backs continued to do the basics well. With three minutes to go we led by six points when Castlelyons goaled to give us a nervy last couple of minutes. However we held on in the end to give us our first league victory of the year in hurling or football. A lot of positives to be taken from the game especially with our backs only conceding a goal and a point in the second half.

Team - Shane Devlin, John Carey, Jack Barden, Oliver Cooney, Austin Creagh, Jay Horgan, Ronan Higgins, Cathal O Sullivan

Olamade Oki, Christopher Keegan (0-02), Dylan Scriven (0-01), Eoghan O Mahony, Jamie McCarthy (0-02), Conor McCarthy (0-02), Maurice Curtin.

Subs - Ciaran Gosnell ( 0-04 (2F)) for Eoghan O Mahony, Darren O Driscoll (0-02) for Maurice Curtin, Frank Keirns for Olamade Oki,
Shane Murphy for Ronan Higgins, Luke Kelly for Conor McCarthy

Challenge v Danesfort (Kilkenny) in Carrigtwohil on Sunday 25th March 2012

Carrigtwohill 2-13 Danesfort (Kilkenny) 2-09

Danesfort played us in a minor hurling challenge game prior to they heading to Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the league match between Cork and Kilkenny.

On a morning which was perfect for hurling our lads produced a solid performance. With Dansfort having a number of classy forwards our backs had to work extremely hard to close down space early on. Once they got on top and with Shane Murphy and Cathal O Sullivan supplying excellent ball to our forwards the scores started to flow.

Leading at half time by a goal we made a number of changes at half time where we introduced Jamie McCarthy, Darren O Driscoll, Luke Kelly and Ciaran Gosnell and all four made a significant contribution in the second half. The score of the game came late on where Christopher Keegan now operating at centre back received a ball on our own 65 and duly struck it over the bar.

Great to get a win and our league campaign gets under way in 10 days time.

Team - Shane Devlin, John Carey, Jack Barden, Oliver Cooney, Austin Creagh, Jay Horgan(Goal 65), Ronan Higgins, Cathal O Sullivan (0-04), Shane Murphy, Alamide Oki, Dylan Scriven(0-01F), Christopher Keegan (0-01), Frank Keirns, Eoghan O Mahony (1-02),

Maurice Curtin

Subs Ciaran Gosnell (0-01) for Shane Murphy, Darren O Driscoll (0-01) for Dylan Scriven, Luke Kelly (0-01) for Jay Horgan,
Jamie McCarthy (0-02) for Frank Keirns. All Half time

Challenge v Bishopstown in Carrigtwohill on Friday 9th March 2012

Carrigtwohill 1-14 Bishopstown 1-14

Bishopstown came to Carrigtwohill to play us in a Minor Hurling challenge game last Friday night. Missing a number of our more senior players through illness our lads put up a very encouraging performance.

Getting off to a very ropey start with our first touch poor and conceding soft frees Bishopstown led by 3 points after 10 minutes. However as the half wore on our backs got to grips with their forwards, Shane Murphy in particular was to have a brilliant game throughout started to dominate at centre back while Ciaran Gosnell was hurling a world of ball around the middle of the field. A super individual Dylan Scribbin goal before half time left us trailing 10 points to 1-06 at the break.

There was nothing between the sides in the second half. Gary Moriarty was to get 2 great points and was desperately unlucky not to get a winner for us a minute from time.
Shane Devlin was to pull off another top class save when their wing forward was through on goal. In the end a draw was probably a fair result. An excellent work out for our lads while Luke Kelly who was very unlucky not to get a goal and Brendan McCarthy who got a nice score and won a number of frees before he went off injured made their Minor Hurling debuts.

Thanks to Brian Murphy for again doing an excellent job with the whistle.

Challenge v Ballincollig in Ballincollig on Saturday 25th Febraury 2012

Carrigtwohill 0-11 Ballincollig 1-12

A very worthwhile exercise for our minor hurlers who played their first game of the season in Ballincollig. The deciding moment of the game arrived in the first minute when defensively we were very poor and a Ballincollig forward finished clinically from close range giving Shane Devlin no chance in goal. Shane was to go on and make a couple of top class saves especially in the first half.

From this set back we recovered our composure with Jack Barden, Jay Horgan and Shane Murphy doing well in defence, Cathal O Sullivan working hard around midfield with Dylan Scriven, Sean Rohan and Christopher Keegan now playing at wing forward getting some good scores up front.

Our one goal scoring chance game early in the second half when Olamadae was unlucky not to goal. Christopher Keegan who was to finish with 5 points Eoghan O Mahony and Jay Horgan kept the scoreline ticking over for us. However we never looked like creating another goal chance and Ballincolling eventually ran out winners by four points.
