Campionship v Russell Rovers in Carrigtwohill on Wednesday 19th September 2012

Carrigtwohill 3-6 Russell Rovers 2-14

On another fine and dry evening for football, this was a very entertaining and closely contested game which could have gone either way in the end. It was Russell Rovers who did come out on top however by a margin of five points. We went in at half time leading by minimum on a scoreline of 2-2 to 1-4. We could have been further ahead only for a penalty very well saved by the Russell Rovers goalkeeper. Stephen struck it low and hard to the corner of the net. It was goal bound but for a great finger tip save. Brendan and Shane were forced off at half time and shortly after it respectively, due to injury but we were still going into the second half in confident mood as we had a strong bench to call upon.

Russell Rovers got a few early points and brought themselves into a one point lead. The lads battled on throughout the second half we some strong displays from our full back line including Gearoid, Joespeh and Alan. Oliver made some great saves too in goals. Up front Conor Keegan hammered in a trade mark goal with some good teamplay from Sean O' Sullivan and Daire Crotty. It was our inability to trackback some of their runners which also contributed to Russell Rovers winning the match on the night. Hopefully the players will learn from this and take it forward to u16 football next year.

Challenge v St Vincent's on Thursday 6th Septmebr 2012

St Vincent's 4-4 Carrigtwohill 1-8

We travelled to St. Vincents for our first match u15 football match of the year. It was a beautiful evening for a game of football and we controlled the game in the first half. After a few early wides we shook off the the cobwebs and scored some great points including some fine long range efforts from Paul Barden and Stephen Flynn.

We went in at half time four points up. St. Vincents got through for a couple of early goals in the second half and it could have been more but for some fine saves from Tom in goals. This was a very good game for the lads and we followed this with two more challenge games against Ballinora and Nemo Rangers prior to our championship game last Wednesday.
