League v Midleton in Caherlag on Thursday 19th April
Carrigtwohill/Erins Own 3-7 Midleton 0-8

On Thursday evening at 7pm 19th April, Carrigtwohill/Erins Own met Midleton in a must-win match in Caherlag. Playing with a strong wind Midleton started strong and immediately put Carrigtwohill/Erins Own under pressure. Midleton got the first couple of points of the game, however Carrigtwohill/Erins Own responded well by scoring a goal and a point within 5 minutes.  After that brief spell, Midleton dominated for the rest of the first half; however solid performances from Emma, Michelle and Aideen in the full-back line ensured the last line of defense was not breached and no goals were scored. The half back line also worked very hard keeping Midleton under pressure and not giving them any easy scores.  With 5 minutes to go in the first half, Carrigtwohill/Erins Own received a blow when centre back Edel had to come off due to injury.  For the last 5 minutes it was a scramble defense but at half time Carrigtwohill/Erins Own were only down by 2 points – 1-2 to 7 points.

With the wind to our backs Carrigtwohill/Erins Own came in to their own in the second half.  It was time for the Carrigtwohill/Erins Own forwards to dominate.  Some excellent support play from Edel and Fiona in the half forward line meant that Ciara & Tracey were not short of supply in the second half and caused plenty of trouble.  To be fair to Midleton their defense stood up well and closed down many opportunities that Carrigtwohill/Erins Own had.  Eventually their defense was breached by Ciara to get that all important goal. This coupled with a couple of points from play and a few lovely frees scored by Stefanie meant that Carrigtwohill/Erins Own went ahead about 15 minutes in the second half. This was a lead that Carrigtwohill/Erins Own held for the rest of the match, despite some quick counter attacks by Midleton.  Carrigtwohill/Erins Own midfield and half forward line tracked their players whenever this happened, never giving Midleton an overlap or an opportunity to score.  A testament to Carrigtwohill/Erins Own’s defense in the second half was holding Midleton to 1 point. Final Score was Carrigtwohill/Erins Own 3-7 to Midletons 8 points.  A comfortable win in the End for the Candy Stripes.
