Challange v Sarsfield in Sarsfield on Saturday 21st September 2013

Its days like today we see how much our skill level has improved over the season and was a pleasure to watch.  We travelled to Sarsfield GAA Club this morning with large numbers from both Under 8 and Under 6 Panel.  We played four matches simultaneously - two Under 8 and a mix of Under 6 and Under 7's.
It is a great testament to the club that we have such high numbers and can field 4 teams from our U8 and U6. Both matches for our Under 8 Panel were fast paced with Carrig girls out scoring Sars on both occasions. We allowed a bit more freedom of movement and lifting the ball which produced some fantastic scores from both Carrig and Sars. The obvious improvement in skill levels was there from the get go and the girls got stuck into every ball that came their way and played as if they were in an All Ireland Final!  Our girls have gained confidence and skills which will carry them up the ranks and will produce some great Camogie Players.  Well Done Girls and all the Coaches are extremely proud of each and every girl.

In addition, great comments were received from the Sarsfield Coaches referring to the quality of Camogie from the Carrigtwohill Girls.

Finally, many thanks to Sarsfields GAA Club for facilitating us throughout the season. And of course a big thanks to the parents who take the time to bring the girls to matches.  This is a very important part of helping the girls grow in confidence and hone their skills on the pitch.

Training will continue Saturday next at usual time of 12.30 and a quick reminder to all to keep October 5th free for our  Blitz Day which always proves to be a great day out!

Go Games Gala Final v Crosshaven & Bishopstown in Blackrock on Saturday 31st August 2013

We travelled in huge numbers to Castle Road on a beautiful Saturday morning.  We had two teams entered in this Go Games Gala Final with both matches running simultaneously at 11.20am.

Our Blue Team played against a strong Bishopstown Team, however our skill level and speed proved to be too much for the opposing team.  Fantastic work from our goalkeeper and back line in the opening minutes ensured us a clean sheet going into middle third of the game.  Superb work from midfield and forwards ensured a few scores which brought us comfortably into the final third.  An exceptional game of camogie from both sides gave supporters, coaches and parents a fantastic display of skill and determination.

Our Gold Team proved equally as successful on the pitch against a very new Crosshaven Team.  Crosshaven are only a very new club, however, produced a fantastic evenly matched game of Camogie in the 1st third of this game.  However, with two quick goals from a fantastic forward line early in the middle third brought us a level game.  This gave our girls the confidence to continue to keep the ball at the opposite end of the pitch and were unlucky on a few occasions.  However, after a few changes we were on the scoreboard again.!   Carrigtwohill comfortably went into the final third with superb play from goalkeeper up the wings to the forwards who made some excellent first touches to put us on the score sheet again.

We went to Blackrock with a 30 strong panel and every girl played a part to make this a fantastic day for camogie both in Carrigtwohill and Cork.  The girls each took away a beautifully designed t-shirt as a token of appreciation.

We would like to thank particularly the four girls who volunteered to play with another team in order to make up numbers.  This type of sportsmanship ensures no girl is without a game. Well done girls.

Finally, we would like to thank all the parents who took time out to bring the girls to Castle Road this morning and to those who supported by buying coffee and cakes.

Our Under 8 training resumes on SATURDAY MORNINGS from now on.  WELL DONE !

Training Friday 30th August 2013

This was our last Friday evening training session which again we concentrated on skills. We can see an improvement every week. We also did some work on speed and agility through games which everyone enjoyed.  Again a fantastic turnout with about 25 girls turning up.

We gave each girl a Certificate to honour their dedication and performance throughout the year both on and off the field. We should have some lovely photographs of the team up over the coming days.

We are well on our way with our preparation for tomorrows Go Games Gala Final tomorrow in Castle Road. Good Luck x

Challange v Youghal in Youghal on Tuesday 27th August 2013

We travelled to Youghal this evening to witness another fantastic effort by our Under 8 Panel against a very strong Youghal team.  Despite travelling with very low numbers our girls supplied us with a great game of camogie and pressed ahead till the final whistle, showing a superb sense of determination. We were slow to begin with however, we came together exceptionally in the next ten minutes of the game with outstanding performances by our midfield.

Having consumed plenty of Jaffa Cakes and Oranges, in the final section our forward line were exceptionally unlucky not to have scored on numerous occasions but continued to battle to the end.  Our strong back line held off a very strong youghal with a few great saves by our two goalkeepers.  Despite this time being on the losing side, the girls enjoyed every minute and were an example to all of us watching. I would like to thank Youghal for a fantastic game of Camogie and also to those parents who travel to our matches. Your support is very much appreciated !

We have invited Youghal down to us over the next few weeks and details will follow to parents via Teamer / Text.

TRAINING WILL BE ON FRIDAY NIGHT AT 7pm - and we would like full attendance as we will be handing out certificates to the Under 8\'s in recognition of their outstanding dedication since the beginning of the season.

BLITZ v Na Piarsaigh & Carrigaline in Na Piarsaigh on Friday 5th July 2013

We travelled to Na Piarsaigh this evening to the second of our Go Games Blitz, with perfect weather on our side looking forward to the challenge.

The first match was against a strong Na Piarsaigh side however, our girls held them off from scores extremely well! Our back line in particular had a great game with support from a strong midfield.  A fabulous goal from a sideline ball in the last section of the match ensured our girls a draw game.

Our second match was against another strong opponent, Carrigaline.  Goal for goal was matched on either end of the pitch with a fantastic clean game of hurling from both teams. Our forward line came into their own in this match and used every ball supplied by the midfield.

We had great support from the sidelines with an extra special supporter, Sean Og O\'hAlpin.  It was fantastic for all the girls to see such a famous face taking the time to watch and encourage them !

Once again, many thanks to all the girls and parents for travelling with us.

We have one remaining match at home against Carrigaline, which we hope to be played over the coming weeks. This will complete our games for this years Go Games.  Parents will be informed via Teamer.net closer to the time!

League v St Catherines in Carrigtwohill on Tuesday 18th June 2013

It was fine Tuesday evening for the under 8's match vs St Catherine's. We halved the teams in two so two matches were going on at the same time. Great camoige was displayed by both teams throughout the games. Well done everyone!

Saturday 15th June 2013

Gold and Blue teams trained this morning where we concentrated specifically on skills. Striking and blocking were the order of the day and you can see that the girls are practicing at home. We will work on speed and accuracy next week.
See you all on Saturday.

Blitz in Sarsfields on Sunday 9th June 2013

The first of two Go Games Blitz days were completed today on a beautiful morning in Glanmire.  We played three matches. The girls put in a fantastic display in all three games despite the heat. The experience of these matches are benefitting the girls immensely. Their confidence on the pitch is fantastic and they played their hearts out to the last minute.

The girls are particularly good for staying in their zones and responding to the referees. This was commented on by a coach from another club, so well done girls :-) We have two more matches and one blitz day to complete  our Go Games. Parents will be updated through teamer.net as soon as fixtures are confirmed.

Blitz in Aghada on Saturday 8th June 2013

On a very hot sunny Saturday we had a great turnout for the U8 go games blitz in Aghada.  Teams competing were Dungourney, Fr. O'Neills, Aghada, St Catherines and Carrigtwohill.  Carrigtwohill had 2 teams playing.  All the girls played their hearts out demonstrating their camogie skills they learnt during training.  Everyone showed great enthusiasm for the matches.  Well done girls

GOLD v Na Piarsaigh in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 18th May 2013

Another fantastic game of Camogie produced by our Under 8 GOLD Team this afternoon against a very strong Na Piarsaigh side. The teams were very evenly matched and with exceptional play either end of the pitch and we had our supporters cheering loudly from the sidelines !

In fact, I think they enjoyed it more than the girls....Goals at either end gave the girls encouragement to fight for every ball that came their way. This was the second game for our Go Games league and the girls are improving with every match they play !  All credit to them !

We will be travelling to Sars, Na Piarsaigh and Carrigaline over the coming weeks but texts will go out to all parents as soon as they are scheduled.

Finally, thanks to Na Piarsaigh for travelling down and to the referees for their time and most importantly to the girls and their parents for turning up.

League v Sarsfields on Saturday 11th May 2013

Despite the threatening weather the sun shone for us and we had a superb turnout for the first match of our Go Games season against a strong Sarsfields team.

We played three matches simultaneously, and each and every girl that togged out in Carrig colours played a lovely clean game of Camogie.  Every girl played their heart out and made us very proud to be involved with this Under 8's Team, both Blue and Gold.

On the sideline, both Carrig and Sars parents and supporters gave it their all to encourage both teams. All credit to them for their support.

Three fantastic games of camogie were played with the teams scoring on both ends.  All three games ended with a draw, which shows how evenly the teams were matched.

Thanks to the girls who refereed and helped out with breaks, without them we couldn\'t run these games so efficiently !

Finally, a word of thanks to Sarsfields for travelling down to us and we look forward to the return game in a few weeks.
