Championship Replay v Watergrasshill in Lisgoold on Monday 12th August 2013

Carrigtwohill 0-12 Watergrasshill 1-18

This was a disappointing end to the campaign as Carrig exited the championship after defeat to Watergrasshill in this quarter final replay last Monday night. Carrig played with the wind in the first half but could not build up the lead, which they needed to take into the second half. Chris Keegan had a goal chance early on but this was well saved by the Watergrasshill goalkeeper. Carrig conceded a goal just before half time and this proved to be the major turning point as we trailed by two points going in at the break.

The second half went along the same lines as the first half as Carrig struggled for scores but in contrast every ball Watergrasshill hit seemed to find the target. Daniel O'Mahony tried hard but could not find the space he needed and injury forced him in full forward early in the second half. Shane Murphy was excellent again at half back and he was well supported by Jay Horgan and Padraig Hogan. In truth this was not our night against a more experienced Watergrasshill side but credit all the lads for their efforts and most of them can look forward to three more years at under twenty-one. Carrig Abú.

Team - Shane Devlin, Ronan Higgins, Aaron Gosnell, Brian Cashman, Dylan Scriven, Padraig Hogan, Shane Murphy, Cathal O'Sullivan, Jay Horgan, Kevin Chubs Murphy, Daniel O'Mahony, Sean Rohan, Ciaran Gosnell, Christopher Keegan, Jamie McCarthy.

Championship v Watergrasshill in Lisgoold on Saturday 3rd August 2013

Carrigtwohill 1-16 Watergrasshill 0-19 (AET)

Carrigtwohill live to fight another day in the U-21 hurling championship after a battling performance to draw with Watergrasshill in Lisgoold last Saturday night. It was a difficult night for hurling as a strong wind was blowing down the field making scores hard to come by for both teams. Shane Murphy had a great game at wing back and all the backs played very well throughout. Richie Ford replaced the injured Cian Buckley at midfield early in the game and he settled into the game well and scored two important points.

Daniel O'Mahony scored Carrig's goal but Carrig were behind for most of the game and only hit the front with five minutes to go to the end when they held a narrow two point lead with the wind advantage. Unfortunately we could not hold on and Watergrasshill levelled with two late frees to send the game into extra time.

Carrig had the wind in the first half of extra time but could not build up a lead and it looked like Watergrasshill were going to go on and pull away in the second half but credit all the lads they fought hard to hold on and force a replay. Ciaran Gosnell scored a late free to level up the scores once again.
The replay is fixed for Monday 12th August in Lisgoold at 7pm.

Championship v St Catherine's in Dungourney on Monday 22nd July 2013

Carrigtwohill 1-20 St Catherine's 0-12

Carrigtwohill progressed to the quarter final of the U-21 B Hurling Championship after a great performance to defeat St Catherine's in Dungourney last Monday night. The hard work and support play throughout the team was excellent and this led to some fantastic scores over the hour. The high score of 1-20 was even more impressive considering the tight pitch and tricky scoring conditions. Carrig led 0-10 to 0-5 at the break after a battling first half display and credit the defence who held the Catherine's forwards to five points and set up some great attacks in the process.

As expected after the break St Catherine's came strong but the lads gave nothing away easy and Shane Devlin made two point blank saves to keep Carrig comfortably ahead going into the last 15 minutes. All the Carrig forward scored from play and Ciaran Gosnell was very accurate from frees but Captain Daniel O'Mahony led the line and scored some excellent points. Eoghan O'Mahony came off the bench and was in the right place at the right time to kick a goal to the bottom right corner which effectively sealed the win.
Carrig will now play Watergrasshill over the long weekend 3rd/4th/5th August.
