Challenge v Douglas in Carrigtwohill on Friday 12th April 2013

Carrigtwohill 3-15 Douglas 2-12

On the back of a great win in the league against Killeagh. Kenneth organized a challenge match with Douglas to try out players in different positions to see could we get closer to a starting 15 for league and championship, and to have a plan b in the event of players being injured or thinking they where injured. With our small panel we only had 14 players we had players playing feile the following day. If the players where on a high after Killeagh game, they where soon grounded by the display of Douglas in the first half. Carrig looked to be frustrated by all the positional changes and totality lost there shape as a result where losing by 6 points at half time.CARRIG 1-5   DOUGLAS 2-8

Had it not being for the solid performances of Conor O'Mahony and Paul Barden things could have been a lot worse for Carrig, plus the shooting accuracy of Brendan MacCarthy signing off with 1-4. Plan b out the window we went back to plan a, and from the off you could see the players attitude changing, they where beginning to enjoy what they where doing. Sean O'Sullivan was more at home in midfield, Conor Keegan, Daire Crotty, Ollie Baverstock and Luke Kelly excelled. Brendan MacCarthy worked tirelessly putting over Niall McCarthy like points adding his total to 1-9 for the hour [2frees}. Stephen O'Flynn summed up our second half display with two outstanding saves from close range. Carrig scored 2-10 in second half. Douglas where held to 0-4 [2frees] and the 2 points from play came in the last 4 minutes well done Carrig backs.

Scores - Brendan MacCarthy 1-9,  L Kelly 1-1, D Crotty 1-0, C Keegan 0-3, O Baverstock 0-1, P O'Hanlon 0-1.

League v Killeagh/St Ita's in Killeagh on Tueday 9th April 2013

Killeagh/St Ita's 2-10 Carrigtwohill 4-16

After all the hard work by Kenneth Landers and his backroom staff and more importantly the players, could carrig pull off there first U16 premier HL win. The odds where stacked against them missing key players, and then to find out our home fixture was to be played away. Luke Kelly settled any Carrig nerves with a glorious opening point Carrig dominated the first 20 minutes, then a goal from Landers from a free agitated the Carrig defence and as a result found it hard to concentrate for remainder of the half. It was fitting that Luke Kelly would end the half the way he started it with another fine point. Carrig led 1-8 to 1-5 at half time, with Killeagh scoring 1-3 in the last 7 minutes of the half.

Killeagh started very strong in second half and carrig found themselves 2 points down with 10 minutes to go. Carrig emptied the bench bringing on Brendan Twomey and Killan Carthy Blake. The turning point came when Brenadan MacCarthy made a great run and forced the umpire to raise the green flag, which led to Carrig leaving everything out on the pitch, and storm to victory. Carrig selectors are still under no illusion as to the task that lies ahead, but must be encouraged by the attitude and unity of the players when their backs were to the wall especially with players being asked to play out of position.

Team - S O'Flynn, R McGrath, G O' Leary, J Roynane, C O'Mahony, O Baverstock, P Barden, A McNamara, B MacCarthy, S O'Sullivan,

Challenge v Tallow in Tallow on Sunday 3rd March 2013

Tallow 2-11 Carrigtwohill 2-15

A cold day in Tallow for our second challenge game of the year, started brightly getting great scores from Butty, Daire Crotty and Conor Keagan. We left Tallow back into it before half time and we only led at half time by 3 points.

Our movement from our forwards was unreal and our goalkeeper Stephen picking out players with ball was very good. With Bav at center back cleaning up in the second half held it all toghter we got out of there with a win by 4 points in what was a tough game. We went down with 18 players and everyone got a run.

Championship v Kinale in Shanbally on Monday 8th July 2013

Carrigtwohill 3-12 Kinsale 0-8

This was our first championship game of the year. Due to injuries and holidays we travelled from Carrig with sixteen players to play a team who had previously comfortably beaten us in the league. We also had a disappointing loss to Erin's Own the week before the championship. We knew the lads were capable of playing much better than they previously had. From the throw in it was obvious that the lads were well up for the game. Everybody from Tom to Steve was outstanding and gave it their all despite the extreme heat. Their workrate and team play was excellent. We play Erin's Own in the quarter final and after our win against Kinsale we look forward to the challenge. Well done to all the lads who showed great character and discipline during the game.
