Our 2017 Clubman of the Year was announced in Guilders Bar on Thursday evening, June 21st. A great crowd of friends, family and clubmates gathered to see a deserving Michael Rohan receive a well-earned award. It was through the efforts of many individuals, in particular Club Secretary, Caroline Dixey, that the night was a great success and Michael was none the wiser before receiving the award. Michael has been a constant source of help for the club in ways big and small over many, many years going back to his playing days and he was as modest as ever in accepting the award. Everyone at Carrigtwohill GAA would like to congratulate Michael on becoming our latest Clubman of the Year and thank him for all of the hard work that he continues to give. Long may it continue.
Chairman Michael Ahern said a few words about Michael on behalf of the club.
”The 2017 Clubman of the Year is someone who has worked tirelessly and unassumingly as a player and committee member on behalf of Carrigtwohill GAA for many years.
This individual enjoyed great success at underage level, winning the double at U14 and U16 before going on to help win Carrig’s first East Cork minor hurling title in over a decade with 5 points in the final against Youghal in 1975. He hurled ably with Carrig’s intermediates and after they were re-graded to Junior in 1978 he set up the second goal for Seanie Cashman that clinched an East Cork title against Cloyne.
When his playing days were over he donned a white jacket and manned the posts in a Munster Senior Football final, a National League final, a Railway Cup final and an All-Ireland minor semi-final, umpiring in games across the four provinces.
Our clubman of the year is one of the nicest and most genuine people you’ll meet; a man who continues to help out in any way whenever he is asked and a most deserving recipient of this award. 2017 Clubman of the Year, Michael Rohan. ”
