Oliver O’Connor was named Clubman of the Year for 2013 after a lifetime of outstanding service to Carrigtwohill GAA.
Ollie was a player on Carrig teams for many years, including being part of the Carrig intermediate that contested the famous draw and replay against Nemo Rangers in 1971. After that he took up officer roles within the club, including Treasurer and Registrar. Over the years he was a key contributor to major fundraising events, such as the hugely successful greyhound nights that sustained the club’s finances for a number of years in the middle of the last decade.
Ollie was also the key driver in the club’s history book project, to which he gave many, many years of work, enthusiasm, passion and leadership. In later years Ollie has been an invaluable member of various club sub-committees dealing with strategic planning, membership and communications. He has also been a willing volunteer for any number of special club projects and events, most notably La Na gClub in 2009 and a few highly successful re-union nights for old club teams over the years.
This recognition of Ollie’s contribution to Carrigtwohill GAA was long overdue and we were delighted to finally acknowledge the invaluable contribution he has made to the life of our club.
