Carrigtwohill vs Cobh in Glenville
Saturday, 10th September
Carrigtwohill 0.11 - 2.13 Cobh
Carrig underperformed in this match, coming off the back of a very good winning performance in the league final against Fr. O’Neill’s two weeks previously.
The match was pretty evenly balanced in the opening quarter, with the score at 0-04 to 1-02 after 16 minutes. Luke Kelly O’Regan opened Carrig’s account, David Joseph converted from a very tight angle near the corner and Dáire Crotty added a brace from distance. Cobh then dominated, scoring an unanswered 1-4 to open up an eight point lead after 27 minutes and Carrigtwohill were chasing the game for the remainder of the match. Luke (free), Crotty and DJ added a point apiece to their tallies before the short whistle, with Cobh raising one more white flag to make it 0-07 to 2-07 at the half-time.
Cobh kept Carrig at arm’s length throughout the second half. The gap was reduced to four points 13 minutes into the half, courtesy of a Luke Kelly O’Regan free and an Ollie Baverstock point after a good surging run. Cobh responded to increase the gap back to seven points. Dáire Crotty struck another fine long range effort over the bar from near the sideline and Luke blazed a penalty over the bar deep in injury time. David Rooney put in a very solid display at centre back.
Carrigtwohill Team: Ryan O’Donovan, Cormac Flynn, Neil Coughlan, Niall Harte, Ollie Baverstock (0-1), David Rooney, Dáire Sullivan, Conor O’Mahony, Jack Scully, David Joseph (0-2), Dáire Crotty (0-4), Seán O’Sullivan, Luke Kelly O’Regan (0-4; 0-2 f, 0-1 pen), Shane Healy (captain), Peadar Downey. Carrigtwohill vs Sarsfields in Rathcormac
Saturday, 17th September
Carrigtwohill 0.16 - 1.16 Sarsfields
This was an improved effort on the Cobh game but Sars finished the game stronger than Carrig, with a late goal proving decisive.
There was never more than a point between the sides in the first half of a free-flowing game. Ryan O’Donovan pulled off a fantastic point-blank save inside the first five minutes. Carrig were reduced to fourteen men due to a red card on 17 minutes. The half-time scoreline of 0-08 to 0-08 was a pretty fair reflection of the first half exchanges. Dáire Crotty (three), Luke Kelly O’Regan (two), Shane Healy (two) and David Joseph (one) were on target for Carrig.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first one, with Carrigtwohill edging one point clear (0-11 to 0-10) 12 minutes in. Luke struck Carrig’s three points (two frees). The tit for tat scoring pattern continued, with Carrig still edging it (0-15 to 0-14) as normal time elapsed. Kelly O’Regan (three; two frees) and Ollie Baverstock added those further four scores to the Carrigtwohill tally. Sars struck for the only goal of the match and followed up with two points in added time. Luke converted a sideline cut deep in injury time. Peadar Downey put in a massive effort throughout at full-forward.
Carrigtwohill Team: Ryan O’Donovan, Cormac Flynn, Conor O’Mahony, Seán Aherne, Neil Coughlan, David Rooney, Dáire Sullivan, Dáire Crotty (0-3), Jack Scully, David Joseph (0-1), Shane Healy (captain, 0-2), Seán O’Sullivan, Luke Kelly O’Regan (0-9; 0-4 f, 0-1 s/l), Peadar Downey, Ollie Baverstock (0-1).
