2020 CAMOGIE IMOKILLY U12 LEAGUE OPENER
IMOKILLY U12 LEAGUE - Match Report
Carrigtwohill -v- Castlemartyr
Tuesday Sept 1st 6.45pm
Referee: Mark Murphy
On a very damp evening the u12s took to the field in their 1st round of the league against Castlemartyr. After playing them in a challenge match a few weeks ago, we knew they were an excellent team of the highest caliber. Lauren O Flynn was our captain and after meeting referee Mark Murphy she chose to play up the slope in the 1st half.
The match started at a very quick pace with neither side giving a inch of space. The level of hooking and blocking by both teams was of the highest quality. Castlemartyr scored a well worked goal. After another few minutes pressure by Castlemartyr on our goal Emma O Connor and Kaci Rice cleared our lines.
From here until just before half time Carrigtwohill were on top. Both Holly Forde and Orla O'Keeffe both started winning their midfield battles. After some beautiful hand passing between Orla, Faye, Lauren and Lily O'Connell catching the last one found Emma Barry free with a great cross field pass. From here Emma Barry rattled the Castlemartyr net with a get long range shot.
With further pressure being placed on the Castlemartyr goal by Ria O Sullivan forcing a 45. Faye Scriven cool as ever slotting the ball over the bar for a point. With Hailey McAllen and Claire Crowley both now getting the better of their players in the half back line Holly Forde drove up the centre of the field to find Faye in space to Slot over another fine point from long range.with practically the last puck before half time Taylor Holland from Castlemartyr scores her own long range point. To make it 1-2 to 1-1 at half time.
With Castlemartyr making changes Mia Tynan who played with some great reading of the game and never give up attitude we brought Emily Bernard on who equally excelled at the back on the night. With Castlemartyr putting our defence under sustained pressure from the word go Katie Walsh was brilliant organising the defence.
Unfortunately it took a deflected goal to break through. Carrigtwohill girls would not take it lying down and with Lauren pulling the strings in half forward and Ria O 3 holding 4 players off, Lily McAuliffe playing her 2nd ever Camogie match was unlucky not to put us back in front.
As we pushed forward for the last 5 minutes trying to get the score we were caught on the break by Castlemartyr . They then scored 3 quick scores to put a slightly unfair look on the score board.
A huge thank you to Megan Walker who got the message only 5 minutes before throw in and Meadbh Carroll who was horse riding at the time both dropped everything to turn out and played for girls with 2 players dropping out to illness just before throw in.
Next up is an away trip to Dungorney who will prove an equally hard contest in a few weeks.
We would like to wish Castlemartyr the best of luck for the rest of the year.
