U14B Match Report
Bishopstown -v- Carrigtwohill
Round 3 Championship
Referee: Alec Gibbon
We travelled to Bishopstown with a full panel on what started off a miserable damp morning. 10.45am throw-in so an early start too ! Our girls were facing a tough Bishopstown side who are currently topping the leaderboard.
Carrigtwohill came straight out of the blocks, firing on all cylinders Libby Ring took part in the first tussle on far corner of the pitch and pulled away from her marker, getting the ball to Clara Boland. Bishopstown won possession and sliotar dropped right into their forwards. Fortunately, our Captain, Grainne Cuddigan was available for the clean-up out to Clara in mid-field who was first to the ball, won her free having being fouled. Up steps Saoirse Murphy to take the free, lays ball off to Eva who was smothered by 3 B’Town players but support was available in the form of Clara again. Beautiful passage of play between Clara, Eva and Eibhlin and first wide of the match for Carrig. Disappointing finish to a great run of play.
Free to Bishopstown turned over by Eibhlin who won possession easily, spotted Eva Lane free, landed a perfect short puck into her hand and Carrig up a point with a lovely ball between the posts from Eva.
Carrigtwohill immediately looked much more settled and Kate Bogue first to the ball from the Ballincollig puck out – tussle ensued with Kate again coming out on top to flick the ball to Saoirse who was left unmarked. Saoirse with a bit of space took her time to lay the ball off to Robyn who was perfectly placed to gather and let in to Eva for Carrig’s 2nd point from play.
B’Town puck out won and sliotar sent straight up to test the Carrig defence. Again Grainne involved in initial clearance but ended up with Zoe O’Donovan who cleared the lines with a lovely ball up the right wing. B’Town gain possession with huge pressure from Zoe and Grainne. Line cleared well by Carrig keeper Cate O’Connell. Bit of a mix up in our half-back line gave Bishopstown possession and this time they netted the ball with no mistake.
Great puck out from Cate directly to Eva who took a run to Emelia. Great passage of play right through to Neasa who wins a free from 45 line. Jodi unlucky to have to battle but won a line ball. B’Town back line was very strong through the whole game and were not going to let Carrig away with much. Fortunately, Eibhlin having been moved from backs to forwards today was able to make plenty of space for herself and score a point from a textbook passage of play.
B’Town came out in the second half with a bit more pep and netted another fine goal within minutes of the whistle. They were unlucky not to put another point on the scoreboard with a wide minutes later. Fortunately, Carrig, not to be out done netted a goal from a perfectly placed ball to Robyn Walsh from Cate in goal. Robyn spotted Eibhlin free as a bird and no mistake made, Carrig goal. The next bit of action let Emily spot an opportunity to just tap the sliotar away from pressure to get herself out of trouble.
3 further goals from Saoirse Murphy added to a final tally and more points from Eibhlin took us over the line. Trojan shift put in by Erica who dominated her marker with Zoe making life very difficult for the B’Town forwards.
Our back line and half backs worked rate was second to none and they really stepped up and cleared their lines from the danger zones on numerous occasions. Sara, Abbey and Kelsey in the corners provided strong support when pressure was on.
Emma when she came on had fresh legs and put her marker under enormous pressure.
Considering these girls had a difficult run in Championship this year, their hard work at training really was on show today. Some really intelligent play and communication gave them the edge over their counterparts. Their movement of the ball from end to end was impeccable and gave them the edge over B’Town.
Final Score Carrigtwohill 4:5 - Bishopstown 4:0
