After a very long eight months the 2020 Imokilly League Final went ahead on Wednesday evening the 9th of June. With the game originally scheduled to take place on the 5th of October last year, hopes and tensions were high all round.
The first half opened up with three scores in the first three minutes of the game from the Carrigtwohill girls alone .A point from Saoirse (our Captain on the night), a goal by Lauren followed by another goal by Saoirse. Shortly afterwards we saw the sliotar soaring over the bar again struck by our full forward Emma. The full pitch, an element fairly new to this age group saw a lot of enthusiasm from players which allowed for an amazing display of Camogie from both Carrigtwohill and Castlelyons alike. By the end of the first half Castlelyons had managed to get five points , four of which were from frees.
The Castlelyons girls seemed to gather momentum into the second half whilst gaining more ground on the scoreboard with another five points from play and one point granted by a free.The Carrigtwohill girls were by no means giving up easily and by use of a second to none set of skills fought hard to gain and maintain possession which saw Clara impressively drive the sliotar to the back of the net to put another goal on the scoreboard for Carrig.
The last few minutes of the game saw Castlelyons very much at home, scoring two more goals before the final whistle. Many thanks to Castlelyons for hosting the match and thank you to Andrew Dorgan also who was referee on the night.
Although a disappointing result for the Carrigtwohill side, we think it's fair to say that the girls took a lot home from the game and will no doubt carry their experience forward as an advantage to upcoming matches. The girls are now looking forward to taking part in the U14s League which will get underway tomorrow evening away to Fr. O Neills throw in at 6pm.
