Fé 13 Central Group 2 Hurling League Quarter-Final
Mallow v Carrigtwohill in Mallow, Saturday 19th October 2019
Mallow 5-07 Carrigtwohill 5-12
The U13 hurlers travelled to Mallow to play unfamiliar opposition in the league quarter-final.
Carrig started well and opened up a five point lead (2-03 to 1-01) midway through the first half with the goals coming from Tadhg Sullivan. Mallow finished the half stronger and edged a point ahead (3-04 to 2-06) at half-time. Patrick Walsh (0-3, one free), Corey Cunningham (0-2) and Daniel Nolan (0-1) all got on the scoreboard for Carrigtwohill.
The second half was a real see-saw affair with the match ebbing and flowing. With ten minutes to go it was a draw (Carrig 4-10 Mallow 5-07) but Carrig finished the match very solidly, despite losing full-back, Denis Walsh who picked up a nasty hand injury. Keelan Aylward scored two fantastic goals after being relocated to centre forward and Corey Cunningham goaled from a tight angle. Patrick Walsh kept the scoreboard ticking over (0-6, five frees) and was ever dependable from placed balls.
Carrigtwohill Team: Ben Murphy, Sam Allen, Denis Walsh, Cillian McCarthy, Daniel Nolan, Josh Tynan, Mark McCarthy, Matthew Barrett, Keelan Aylward, Alex Delaney, Patrick Walsh, Paul Browne, Jamie Cotter, Tadhg Sullivan, Corey Cunningham. Subs: Alex O’Sullivan, Jack Mulcahy, Callum Fitzgerald, Daniel McCarthy (for Jamie Cotter), Brian Healy, Fionn Kelly, Rory Dolan (for Denis Walsh; injured).
Scorers for Carrigtwohill: Patrick Walsh 0-9 (0-5f); Tadhg Sullivan & Keelan Aylward 2-0 each, Corey Cunningham 1-2; Daniel Nolan 0-1.
Unfortunately, Carrig lost their semi-final to a very impressive Killeagh/Ita’s team the following weekend on a scoreline of 1-06 to 6-07. Despite having numerous goal chances, Carrigtwohill could not make them count and hit the woodwork twice. Scorers for Carrigtwohill in the semi-final were Patrick Walsh 0-4, (0-2f), Tadhg Sullivan 1-0, Matthew Barrett and Keelan Aylward 0-1 each.
Well done to the panel of players and their coaches/mentors on the progress they made during 2019. We wish Denis Walsh a speedy recovery from his injury. Onwards and upwards for 2020.
