Worth the Wait - Junior Footballers Receive League Winners Medal
January 11, 2022
The junior football team that won the East Junior Football Division 2 League in 2019 received their medals in the new clubhouse on the 3rd January.
Club cathaoirleach, Peter Hogan welcomed the players and noted that there was a long delay in arranging the presentation due to the pandemic. He summarised the 2019 league campaign, which involved four matches prior to the final, three of which Carrig won (against Aghada, Bride Rovers and Castlelyons). Carrig lost to Ballinacurra (0-11 to 0-08) the first time around but came good at the second time of asking in the final on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-10 on the 2nd December 2019 in Carrigtwohill.
Peter commended the players for their efforts and emphasised how important it is in a club to win some silverware. He said that such presentations were always nice occasions and having the medal was good for making memories.
Team manager, Marty McConville spoke about having pride in the club and the jersey. He urged the players to keep playing and staying involved in the club in any capacity for as long as possible. The management team of Marty McConville, Clive Cremen and Jim O’Connor were presented with some engraved glassware as a token of the club’s appreciation for their efforts in the successful league campaign. (Selector, Kieran Horgan was unable to attend.)
As well as receiving their league medals, the players also received a goodie bag for their efforts in the subsequent 2020 East Cork Junior A football championship. They went all the way to the final, losing out to a strong Midleton side in Cobh. (Team management in 2020: Clive Cremen, Gary Sheehan, Jim Crowley.)
