Carrigtwohill vs Erin's Own in Carrig
Wednesday 13th April
Carrigtwohill 3.05 Erin's Own 1.08
Carrigtwohill U19s had their first win in the football league at the second attempt, after an opening match loss to Glenville.
As the game settled in the opening stages, the sides were on parity at a point each, with centre back Adam Rooney driving forward to kick Carrig’s opener. Cian O’Riordan fielded an excellent Filip Gawlowska kick-out and carved open the Erin’s Own defence, finishing with a super kick from distance that spilt the posts. David Joseph volleyed a rebounded Alex Kidney shot at goal to the back of the net to put Carrig 1-02 to 0-01 ahead. Erin’s Own dominated possession in the closing stages of the half scoring an unanswered 1-2 to lead at half-time by the bare minimum on a scoreline of 1-02 to 1-03.
Erin’s Own pointed a free shortly after the restart before Oisín Lynch layed off perfectly to the onrushing David Joseph who tapped low past the keeper for Carrig’s second goal. Jonny Spillane kicked an angled point after cutting in off the wing and Erin’s Own reduced the margin back to a point with another free. Alex Kidney and David Joseph (free) increased Carrig’s tally to put them 2-05 to 1-05 ahead, only for Erin’s Own to respond with two super points to reduce the gap to the minimum again. Filip Gawlowska saved well before Oisín Lynch kicked a well executed shot low to the far corner of the net to put Carrigtwohill four points to the good. Erin’s Own raised the final white flag right on the final whistle.
Well done to the team and management on what was a very solid performance. Credit must go to Erin's Own for their contribution to a sporting match. Carrig will play Midleton in their final group game of the football league.
